Submitted by tjkoko on June 1, 2009 - 7:50pm Need source for paper bags for bread storage.I hear that instead of storing bread in the fridge inside of a plastic bag, paper bags are preferred. Can anyone recommend a supplier of paper bags for bread storage? TIA -T

Most local grocery stores
Most local grocery stores have them in the paper plate section - for smaller bread the simple lunch bags do just fine. We also save and reuse the bags from the times when we end up with store-bought loaves.

Grocery store lunch bags
I use them because I make mostly medium sandwich loaves. If you make loaves that are larger than 1.5 pounds or in various shape you may consider getting them in a special store. I remember a thread was posted regarding the same topic:

I bought 500 paper sacks at Costco yesterday. They had 2 sizes (no. 6 and one that was a little larger). The smaller of the two cost about $8; the larger size was $11.

great source for bread bags - free!
I live in Washington State and whenever we visit our state-run liquor store I ask if they have extra bags -- they always give me a bunch. These are long paper bags perfect for baguettes and batards.
