An Apology

I posted a message in the wrong place yesterday because I wasn't familiar with the way things work here! In the past I have only left comments on other users text and this was the first time I had started a thresd of my own. Also, I am not that 'au fait' with this technology being what we call in the UK a Silver Surfer!! I hope I am doing it right this time. What I wanted to do was post some pictures of rolls I made yesterday but I'm not sure I've got my head round that procedure yet, I've looked at FAQ but it says to look for the little tree, there's no tree that I can see. I'll persevere, I'll get there sometime!

Pic posting takes a little reading of the FAQ, a little poking around and a little experimenting. Keep trying, you'll reach the "aha" moment.

The little tree is located on the toolbar just at the top of the text box where you type your message in -- the "Comment" box if you're replying to an existing thread, or the "Body" box if you're starting a new one. It's the second control from the left -- a square button, blue & green. (Maybe it only looks like a tree after someone tells you it's a tree! ;-) )

jemar, welcome to the imaginary world of "simple" Forum Procedure.  Just when you thought it safe to start your own thread...... yikes !

Wish I had a dollar for every hour I've spent trying to figure out something on a forum...

Sure its easy when you know how.

for that! I don't feel so bad now! I still can't see the little tree, and I've really looked hard, honest!!!! When I do, you'll all know, I'll post some pictures.

there is no line of signs on my page, just the comment box with a little red star next to it. I've tried clicking on to it , I've seen the same instruction on the FAQ page but it is definitely NOT here!

Just below your comment box is a line stating "rich text editor" (in red text).

Click that and the graphics will appear.  Including the tree.  ;-)

tried it, no response ! I have a mac laptop, i don't know if that makes any difference. So far I think I've clicked on every word on the page without any results.

I have read some posts where others had the same problem. I've always used Firefox for my browser and others found that FF with Mac gave them the rich text buttons ...it's worth a try...

At last!!!!  Thankyou, thank you thankyou!  I was beginning to think you all must think me mad, but I clicked onto Firefox and voila!  I can now see the rich text logos (incl. the little tree! )  I didn't realize the significance of Firefox, I shall have to see what else it can do.

I can see the tree but when I try to load my pictures I keep getting the message that the file is too large, even after I've shrunk my jpeg image to 800 x 600 pixels.  I use Photoshop to modify my image.

What am I not doing?

If you're using Windoze, Microsoft has a very nifty image resizer.  Once downloaded and installed, all you need to do is open the image then right click your mouse button to resize.  It's very intuitive.  You'll find the program at the link, further down on the right hand side.

when resizing, also change the resolution to 72 dpi.    Then save the file as a jpeg and when the jpeg options dialogue box asks you, select a medium to low setting i.e. number 3 for compression.

This will reduce your picture file size.  800 pixels at 72 dpi with med compression is sufficient for all forum pictures.

I, also, must apologize for maybe doing something wrong. I posted 2 pics of some sourdough bread I had made for a critique on the "Sourdough and Staarters" forum and today they have disappeared. I will have to go to the FAQ page and see if I have committed an error in posting the pics on the forum I was talking on. I just recognized the little "tree" as being the way to post a picture and assumed I could do so. It's not often I know how to do something on a comp andthought I was just sooooo smart cause I knew how to do it LOL Is there a place where one might learn what the "rules" for posting here are? So that I might know what is or is not allowed?

There haven't been any comments or threads deleted here in at least a month aside from a couple of duplicate posts.  Did you hit "Preview" but not "Save"?

It seems that for every post (at least this is my experience), after hitting "Save", a message appears saying that you have to fill out a CAPTCHA. Is it possible that you didn't notice the message and assumed the post had gone through?

-Elizabeth

P.S. The CAPTCHA image is wwaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyy down near the bottom of the page and only appears after hitting "save" (for me, anyway, on WinXP and Firefox 3.0.10)

I've had to fill out the CAPCHA box a few times, but it was always under the same circumstance: Edited my blog a number of times in a row all within close time proximity.

I tried to upload using the little tree, got it into this comment box but it only showed a square with a red dot in it inside of a picture frame which is blank

I resized it too before uploading. help
