Hi from Somewhere in the Middle, USA

I have just stumbled on this site and am happy I did so. I've been baking and cooking since I was 6 at Mom's side. Bread baking was every weekend in our house. Then tragedy struck. I don't know what happened but for about 10 years I couldn't bake a loaf of bread to save my life. Hockey pucks one and all. One day I got better. Whatever block was in my mind and hands went away. And I haven't stopped since, afraid that if I do I'll lose it again. Can't wait to see what this forum has to offer!

Here are my last 2 weekends of work...

MODS: please let me know if the pics are too large. I haven't found any forum rules yet.

well welcome!

please keep these kind of picture at least of this size, I think they look great. The top picture looks like a dutch tradition (which started in NY 400 years ago, this year...).

Cheers,
Jw.

Thanks

The top picture are bagels from Bread Baker's Apprentice by Reinhart. It was my first attempt at bagels and they came out great. The other is my regular yeast white bread.

Poling around the site today. This place is great. I've already learned a lot of tips and techniques that I'll put into play this weekend.

Welcome Scotchgrrl

Great looking breads and I'd love to know about the scale. You are among friends. I look forward to seeing your work.

Scale

Hey, thanks! The scale is a Typhoon Retro in yellow. I got it at Sur La Table for $20 about 5 years ago and I love it. It has not failed me. I don't see it on their website but got it in the store. Here's one I found on Amazon:

Hi!

Hi scotchgrrl,

Your breads look great!   I went through the same sort of spell when I couldn't bake decent bread to save my life.  Thankfully this forum helped me get back into the swing of things.

I have to ask, are you the same scotchgrrl from the bpal forum? ;-)

Howdy Hoyden

I am the same! Great to see you here too.

Cool.

<elaborate silly secret handshake>

Happy Baking!!

Lovely

Lovely looking bread and bagels.  And the photo size is fine: the site should be able to handle up to 800 wide gracefully.
