I am trying to find a french bread recipe similar to the style found in many grocery stores... air pockets, soft inside, crusty outside. I have attempted to make french bread, but it always is the french baguette type. Can anyone point me in the right direction? <Thank You>

Do batards instead of baguettes
I've made this recipe often, dividing the dough and shaping it into a couple of batards.
It's easy and produces some very nice results.
French country bread
Try the recipe of Pain de Campagne attached. I replaced fresh yeast with instant yeast (at 50% of the weight)

Good luck!
