Submitted by zoe34 on March 8, 2009 - 7:35am hello from devonHi this is my introduction. I am a keen home cook, mainly into european and aisan food. Thai, indian, british, french, italian, spanish food...
I have baked the odd loaf of bread with ok or not so good results. I've been on you tube for info on baking, read Richard Bertinet book, and been inspired by this forum.
I am just at the basic stage I think even though I can't wait to do more...
started using fresh yeast today. Await the results in a hour or so. The dough felt different already. Zoe

hello from Devon
Hello, I am pretty new here too and I am in the UK as well. I went on a day course to Richard Bertinet's school last year and thoroughtly enjoyed it, I have both of his books. This is a very good website, lots of help and advice when needed, I'm sure you'll enjoy visiting!
Hello from me, and a second
Hello from me, and a second rec for the Bertinet Kitchen courses. I went on the basic course and it was still well worth it even though I'd been baking a while. Lunch was yummy too.

don't know if you are aware that otterton mill do very reaonably priced bread making courses. I think I might go on one. I presume they sell flour as well. do you know of any local flour supplies? I am in Exeter. zoe
otterton mill
I've never heard of Otterton Mill. Just had a quick look at the website and it looks fab there and the bread making courses look great too. I'm in Plymouth so not too far away. Think I might make a day of it with the family and drive up round that way in the near future. Thanks for suggesting it!
I'm afraid I don't know of any local flour suppliers. I'm afraid I rely on the supermarket for most of my flour, but love the Shipton Mill flours. They make fantastic bread and I buy them at my local farm shop. They have a good website though so you can order it online if you don't have a shop locally that sells it.
If I hear of any local flour suppliers I'll let you know.
Devonian No 3?
Hi Zoe (and Mel2)
I am in Plymouth at the moment - shortly moving out to Callington, so will defect over to Cornwall!
I am looking to do a bread making course and the above recommendation looks great.

Otterton Mill
Although I live in N.Wales I know Otterton Mill as my daughter lives quite near there in Ottery-St- Mary and when we visit down there we sometimes go there, they have a very nice restaurant serving good home cooked food. I have bought flours from the mill and found them very good. They were badly flooded in November when freak weather struck the area, we happened to be down there at the time, I thought the end of the world had come!!! I'm almost sure they are now open for business again . Ididn't know they did bread making courses, I'll have to make some enquiries.
