Hello from Fl.

Hi, I'm originally from Philadelphia. Have been in Florida for 24 years. Everytime I visit Pa. I bring back some bread. I don't understand why I can't get good bread and rolls, guess I'm spoiled from living half my life in Philly. So I decided I'll try making my own Italian bread and rolls, Kaiser rolls, maybe even sticky buns and pretzels. I'm a raw beginner. I'm a Stroke and Cancer survivor. My hands don't work as well as I'd like due to the Stroke, but I manage just fine.  I'd appreciate any advice on what I'll need to purchase to get started.

Thanks!

Glad to have you join us and congratulations on your surviving Cancer and a Stroke, both very tough opponents. If you scroll down on the link above you will see an easier way to handle your dough, whether a sourdough or not. Let us know how your baking fares.

Thank you.

That looks easy enough, so I don't need a bread machine?

Just the ingredients, a dough knife, scraper, stainless steel bowl, scale, and maybe a marble work board?

unless you want to go that route. Let me just say you don't have to have a stainless steel bowl, any bowl will do. Personally, I like the silicone pastry mats, rather than any type of board. The don't slide around, are light weight and take up very little room. If you like to make pastry all the better! A scale, bench scraper and bowl scraper are a must haves. Try some recipes from the lessons.

Good Luck,

Betty

Thank you Betty, I just ordered those four items. When it all arrives I'll figure out where to get the ingredients needed. In the meantime I'll browse around here. Do I need any special cookware, a regular oven will do?. How about a stone, I have a pizza stone.

Thanks,

and congrats on diving in on bread baking.  It is so much fun and very theraputic (sp?)

You don't need any special cookware, a non stick bread pan would be good.  Your pizza stone will come in handy, alot of the "free form" breads are cooked on a pizza stone.  Ask lots of questions, this is a great group of people.

(sp?) ?

The (sp?) indicates that the writer is unsure that they have spelled the word correctly.  And, in that specific case, they had not.
