A good day to bake....

The sun is shining and I decided to work on my round braiding technique for Challah. May have gotten just a little bit carried away. I doubled my usual recipe and made 6 loaves. Practice makes perfect ,they say. Here are the loaves:

Photobucket and the crumb: Photobucket the small jars in back are the result of using my lemon drops for jam. They are a cross between lemons and kumquats. Really lovely tasting. Photobucket

really nice job, but i want a picture of the oven! it would take 3 bakes and alot of rotating for my poor little oven to make such perfect loaves. i can feel the love! thanks for sharing.

I redid my kitchen a little over 2 years ago. The biggest thing on my list was double ovens. I have the Miele 30" with Perfect Clean. That is a coating that you can wipe off and not need to have self clean. I love it. I can do 3 racks on convection in each oven and I don't need to ever swap pans around. It was the best thing I ever did for my baking. Glad you like the pics. I have been making this recipe since about 1976. c

That'a a quote from my 13 y.o. son, who loves challah.  I agree!  I also have kitchen envy, is that a fireplace on the left?  Lovely kitchen.

Thank you Marni, and thank your son. My children have always loved Challah. It was the first homemade bread they ever had back in 1975-76. We love our kitchen and home. We have an 1890 Victorian. We used architectural salvage to remodel the kitchen 2 yrs ago. I like to think that it fits the age and style of the house. This is an original fireplace and mantle. We uncovered the old brick and added a gas/coal stove. It makes the kitchen cozy . Here is a pic.
