White Bread - A King's twist

I'm not a big fan of White bread but I did find that very interesting.
Maybe especially for our kids at times.

That was a beautiful loaf of bread! I'm sure it does taste fabulous and my four kids would probably really, really love it.

But since they will never know it exists I don't have to buy the expensive pan! :D

 Now, back to my sprouted grain, wholemeal sourdough loaf....

Incidently, mine turn up their noses at storebought bread now days and I'm not even a very good bread baker (yet). Thanks for posting it though, it was very pretty.

...Same here.
My kids are 9, 6 and 4, they already prefer my breads to store bought white.
I really did enjoy that article, but fortunately I also don't need a Pullman pan. :-)
As I've mentioned before there are two C's I strive to enforce in our home:
Community and Culture.
That Blog post falls wonderfully into both categories. ;-)

...I love DIY tips, everyday I find one way or another to make life better. ;-)

btw, you can find Pullman pans on for under $10.
I'm not sure of the quality but I have seen them there.
Much of my Bread baking supplies come from Amazon, even name brand at times.

I tried making the loaf in  a pan with a weight on the top, and even though it was a baking sheet with a fire brick on the top , the loaf still managed to come out lop sided, ;-((((( qahtan

Well, you could just call it an architectural loaf. :D Kind of an avante gaurde bread, right? lol I think if I ever decide to make this bread I'll go ahead and buy the pan. I suppose I could level it with my cake torter but that would remove the crust and it just wouldn't be right.

My family loves the bread that I bake, but I haven't been able to break them of their addiction to white sandwich bread.  This may be just the thing to tip the scale.  I guess I'll have to buy a pullman pan one of these days.

Update (2/15/09): I bought a Pullman pan on Amazon for about $21.  I made the KAF white bread recipe last weekend, and we ate it all week for sandwiches and toast.  This weekend I made two loaves, a rye and a white whole wheat.  The wheat is still cooling, but the rye is fantastic.  Way better than any store bought sandwich bread.  In addition to substituting 3/4 cup rye for bread flour, I made a poolish the night before and let it sit out overnight.  I cut the yeast back to 1/4 teaspoon and let it take its time rising.  Definitely a keeper.
