Submitted by bobchristenson on March 25, 2011 - 12:49pm Help Finding Clay or "Builders Mix" in MichiganHelp! I've started building my outdoor bread oven from Denzer's "Build your own earth oven" book (the base has come along nicely!) but I didn't realize I was going to have such a hard time buying clay or a clay mix for the oven mix. I was hoping that digging on my property would turn up a decent mix, but it was all sand. I've called around landscape and brick suppliers and can't find any powered/dry clay or 'builders mix' that is specified in the book. Can anyone point me in the right direction? I'd like to buy it locally (and would LOVE to buy it this weekend!). Even if you could point me in the right direction of what type of places would sell what I need, that would be great! Submitted by bakerb on February 2, 2008 - 7:10am Organic Michigan FlourHello...I'm looking for an organic farmer & miller in Michigan, I'd like to buy fresh-ground unbleached bread flour, locally. I live in Bay City. Tomorrow I'm headed south (Linden, Michigan) to Westwind Milling Company to try their products. Does anyone know of another place? Thanks! Submitted by n3rdchik on December 3, 2007 - 10:53am Hello from an amatuer baker in michiganHello from the Great Lakes State - Though I live next to and work in Ann Arbor, home to Zingerman's, there $6-$10 bucks a loaf is a bit steep on the budget, but now I have an appreciation for good bread. But with work, little ones, and a forgetfull brain - I am still trying to integrate into the "bread lifestyle". I'll probaly be peppering you with questions on flour storage, buying bulk and adding baking to a full schedule. Peace, n3rdchik |
