Hello from England!

April 2, 2011 - 12:11pm -- marcia jones

I just finished making my bread rolls ready for the coming week and then I made some Ricotta.  I was curious as to how I could use the resulting whey when making my bread (I hate to waste anything!)  So I came to my PC and googled my question - and up popped this fabulous site!

I have had a glance around and have registered.  Wonderful site and some great photos and recipes.  I'm sure I am going to be using this site a lot now!

Hope you are all enjoying your weekend!

An intro and Hello!

January 29, 2011 - 2:30pm -- Emelye

Hi everyone!

It's about time I spoke up, I guess.  I've been lurking for awhile now and joined up a couple weeks ago but haven't written anything until today.

By way of introduction, I live in SW New York State with my spouse and cat, and have over the course of the past two years become more and more enamored of baking breads and rolls as part of my economizing necessitated by long term unemployment.  I've gotten pretty good at it, from what people tell me.

G'day all, and a quick question.

March 29, 2010 - 1:10am -- Arne

Hey there, names Arne, first time poster, yada yada. I stumbled across this site a few days ago while researching pretzel recipes. Naturally, the one I found here turned out utterly delicious, and I figured that's a good sign for these forums. I've been making foccacia and pizza dough for years, but never really went much beyond that until the other day. Seeing the recipes here though, I think I may be buying a lot more flour over the next few months. :p

Hello from the central Oregon Coast

January 23, 2010 - 5:51am -- Boilerbay

Hello from the central Oregon Coast. Have been baking bread on and off for 30 some years but now am doing it on a more regular basis. This a great site and from what I've seen (been lurking forever) most are very friendly. A great balance of pros and amateurs. TFL is a fantastic resource.

Regards

Hello, from NY (Fingerlakes)

January 5, 2010 - 9:39am -- Sara Catterall

I just ran across this site and signed right up.  I've been baking all my daily bread for years now (ww/wh sandwich loaves, 2 at a time), make pita,  wheat tortillas, pizza, lefse and quick breads as well, and had very good luck with trying a sourdough last summer - so I'm feeling ready for more. I'm also an indexer and ex-librarian who used to work with one of the best cookbook collections in the country, where I started my own ever-expanding collection.  I doubt I'll blog much, but pleased to be here.

Hello from my RV

December 14, 2009 - 6:15pm -- Doc Tracy

Hi. I'm writing this from my rental 5th wheel. Our house burned about 1 week ago and we were forced to rent an RV while they rebuild the house due to smoke damage.  Anyway, one of the silly things I was so disappointed about losing is my fairly new sourdough starter that I made all by myself. I just started baking bread (other than a few minor efforts in the distant past and bread machine bread which I don't count) and I made my sourdough starter about 2 months ago. Had to toss it due to smoke damage.

Well, I'm new - if you can't tell. I just found this page and was absolutely impressed at how much it helped me start expanding my cooking abilities into baking - which has always been a favorite of mine. I'm a 20 year old college junior studying historical interpretation - which has nothing to do with cooking - but I've always enjoyed throwing random things in a pan or pot and seeing what happens when put to heat and stirred.

My big thing has always been cookies, though I wanted ot learn how to make brads and such for a long time. So, when i stumbled across this, I was immensley pleased. All i have to say is I more than welcome any advice on...well....everything to do with baking bread! I'm off now to use the lessons here to make my first loaf! Wish me luck!
