Another Ohio introduction

Hi there, I'm also from Ohio.  I have been a member of TFL for a couple of years but, honestly I think this is my first post!  I have been baking bread, rolls and pastry for longer than I care to admit.  A friend recently gave me some sourdough starter, which is what brought me back to the forums in earnest.  It's been interesting to learn about sourdough, and I really like baking without commercial yeast.  The advice and recipes here have been very helpful- thank you!

Cheers,

Jen

Hello and question from Chapel Hill

Hi, I'm a library science grad in Chapel Hill, NC. I love making bread, especially when I have five projects due at the same time, but school kind of takes over my life.

I got a really silly sounding question: where is list or index of all the bread recipes? I see at the bottom of the home page that there's a favorite list, but I'm wondering where's a "complete" list.

Thanks!

Hello from Vancouver

I had discovered this wonderful site about a month ago.  Intrigued by so many interesting messages, I have also started posting a few entries without introducing myself...

How did I get started on making sourdough bread?  It was the unusual hot summer we had this year in Vancouver BC.  I was thinking, it should be a good time to learn about sourdough and start creating a starter.  So my first starter was born around late July this year.  My journey of sourdough has begun.  Currently, I am maintaining two starters: rye and whole wheat.

Due to my work schedule, I usually make bread over the weekend, so I keep my starters in the fridge, feed them once a week when I use them. Sometime someday I'll try getting up in the middle of the night so I can make bread during the week ;)

I can't tell you how much I've learned from this website.  Thank you everyone!

Happy learning and oven-springing!

Michelle

Unemployed dad

Recently divorced, unemployed father of 3 (6, 8 & 10) from Detroit suburb.  Also recently new to the kitchen (imagine that).  Looking to solve some baguette problems.  Will do some more reading when time permits.  This seems to be a neat site.

Hello and thank you

Hello Loafers - or is that Freshies? -

I just joined after lurking for a long time, and want to thank you all for such a fine site.  Special thanks go to Floyd for putting it up and doing all that work behind the scenes.

I come from the US, and now live in New Zealand in a tiny little cottage near the ocean.  My kitchen is correspondingly tiny, but the oven is big enough to make a loaf of bread or even two, and I've become a total baking addict.  I tend to be a 'wing it' sort of cook and not use a lot of recipes.  Based on what I was reading here, however, I got a scale for those times when I do want to try a recipe, and oh man the difference it has made!

I've also been getting into the Dan Lepard books recently, and may I recommend the lemon barley cob from his Handmade Loaf to those who haven't tried it?  WOW.  Next time I'm gonna double it.

Bake on!

Howdy from Oregon

Good to see so many people making their own bread.  I've been baking since my kids were young & now they're both over 40.  So have made a lot of great things & had a lot not so good. lol  Recently tried the Art bread in 5 & having fun with it. I'm usually kind of chatty, so hope it doesn't bother anyone. ;)  Looking forward to learning a lot from the rest of you, & if I can help please let me know.

Hello from Ohio

Greetings from the Buckeye state. I have been baking bread for a long time and this site is amazing in all the wonderful recipes it has! Truely inspiring.

I live in a small town, single, raising my grandson (7) on my own and have been selling baked goods at our local farmer's market. Bread seems to be a big hit and I am always looking for new tastes and takes on this staple of life to sell at my stand or share with friends.
