(I have no connection with Companion other than buying their bread, but I thought they should be on the map)

Cincinnati in the hizz-ouse

August 15, 2006 - 8:18pm -- Cooky

The Midwest must be represented.

If you are an artisan bread junkie and are ever anywhere in the vicinity of Cincinnati, OH, you must visit Shadeau Breads. 1336  Main St., 45202, 513-665-9270, Fantastico artisan goodies used by many of the city's best restaurants (and there are more fine dining spots than you would guess, if you're from one of the provincal, isolated, under-informed coasts). They open at 7 a.m. and close early, so get there soonest.

Good bakery in downtown SF?

May 9, 2006 - 10:20am -- JMonkey

I'm travelling for business to San Francisco and will be staying right around Embarcadero Center. The famous Boudin Bakery is walking distance to my hotel, so I thought I'd try their 150-year-old sourdough. But before I did, I thought I'd check in here to see if anyone had other suggestions. I won't have a car, and won't have much time, so it pretty much has to be within walking distance.

Great Artisan Bakery in Cambridge, MA

April 21, 2006 - 8:01am -- JMonkey

Another bakery to add to the bakery map. Iggy's Bread of the World is a fantastic bakery, with most of their breads leavened with wild yeast.

Here's their site: http://www.iggysbread.com/main.html

Address: 130 Fawcett Street, Cambridge, MA, 02138

Iggy's retail store and bakery is a bit hard to find. It's in an old industrial area, but folks seek them out. Most of their business is wholesale, but it's well worth going to the shop to pick up their wares. Raisin pecan is amazing (great for French Toast), their bagels are delightfully old-school (with garlic and poppy seeds all over the bagel, not just on top) and their baguettes are top-notch.
