grain mill below 32 for days, how long to warm up?

January 2, 2015 - 8:22am -- Melesine

My new Komo is being delivered today after spending the last 5 days in transit in below freezing temperatures. How long should I let it warm up in the house before I use it? It's on the truck and it's still in the 20's today. I don't want to mess up the motor. It's been between 0 and 20 degrees since it left the sellers.

Nutrimill Harvest Grain Mill.

December 14, 2014 - 5:53pm -- barryvabeach

In the last year or two,  Nutrimill came out with a stone mill that looked somewhat like a Komo, though it had some functionality issues, IMHO.  They have apparently redesigned it and are marketing the new model under the same name. Nutrimill Harvest Grain Mill  http://breadtopia.com/store/nutrimill-harvest-grain-mill/   In the new model, you adjust the fineness of the grind by a knob in the center of the hopper.  Just wondering if anyone has seen this one in action?

Where to find durum wheat berries in Canada

December 11, 2014 - 9:14pm -- YarnerT

Hi there,  I am planning on buying a grain mill.  I am now trying to find wheat to grind, in particular durum wheat.  I can only find one source for this in canada (Fieldstone Organics), but the price with shipping is very high at $40 for a 5kg bag.  Does anyone know where else I can find it either to order, or locally near hamilton Ontario?

Thank you!

seeking a mill in Seattle to use

November 1, 2014 - 10:49am -- bsumberg

Hi all,

I have a friend who is growing grains in the San Juans, Washington. He doesn't have a mill yet but he will bring some wheat to me in Seattle if I can find a way to grind it. I think we can engineer a trade, some grain for use of a mill, if anyone is interested in Seattle. He is coming next on Thursday Nov.6. He's grown several kinds of barley, different wheats, and kamut I believe. Anyone with a grain mill here?

Checking grain for pebbles and debris - necessary? Tips?

October 31, 2014 - 9:40pm -- Doughing It my way

I finally got a NutriMill and love it.  I'm using "heirloom" wheat berries from an apparently very conscientious grower who does not, however, mention on their website whether or not they check the wheat they sell for pebbles and other debris.  I emailed the farm a month or so ago to ask them about this, but it says on their site that they're extremely slow at answering emails (it's a family farm), and sure enough I haven't heard back.
