Spare parts for the Grain maker 99

May 20, 2022 - 3:19am -- vincenzo29

Hello there

I would like to buy a Grain Maker mill.

Could anybody suggest - based on his/her experience - what spare parts it is convenient to buy with the mill?

I was thinking perhaps: an extra set of burr and shaft & bearings. I am not sure about the auger...

Also, have you got any experience with the Homestead Huller kit? How often is it necessary to change the huller replacement pads? I am based in Italy and perhaps it is more cost-effective to order extra parts with the mill...

Thank you very much!

Can't remove grinding stone on Komo classic

March 22, 2022 - 7:28am -- lainey68

Good morning,

I purchased a used Komo classic mill. The person who had it previously said it hadn't been used in a few years. It works, but I tried to remove the bottom stone and was unable to. I think screw is stuck. Even my brother was unable to unscrew it. He suggested maybe putting a drop of oil where the screw is, but I was afraid to do that because I don't want to mess up the stone. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I would like to be able to clean the housing and I also am interested in purchasing the interchangeable stones.

Thanks,
Elaine

Need advice - husk on wheat berries

March 18, 2022 - 8:28pm -- LittleWolfBaking

Hi all,

Looking for some advice here re chaff/husk on wheat berries to be milled at home. Thanks in advance!

I've been buying whole wheat berries for about a year to mill fresh in a Mockmill 100.  I've ordered from Breadtopia or purchased at my local coop, and the berries always come clean, without rocks, impurities, or hulls.

sourcing grain in Germany/EU

March 18, 2022 - 2:36am -- esrice

I recently moved to Germany from the US. In the US, I bought all my grain for milling wholesale from Camas Country Mill, which I can't say enough good things about. Now it's time to find my new supplier here. Does anyone have any recommendations for a place to buy grain wholesale in Germany or perhaps elsewhere in the EU?

milling temps!

March 5, 2022 - 10:17am -- glutenboi

Hi all,

I got a salzburg Max special mill.

Looking for help from anyone who mills their own berries. I have the MAX special and I just did my first batch of red wheat berries ~400 g at a time, on the finest setting I could get at room temp. The results were good, but the flour got hot. Started at around 85F and went up to 130F. Not ideal. Anyone else have this issue? Is it the type of stone? Kind of frustrating given the cost. Am I doing it wrong? Would ceramic not have this be an issue?

TIA!

DIY: Motorizing hand-crank mill Country Living, Grainmaker

February 28, 2022 - 11:14pm -- WaCur

I have a Country Living Mill.  Hand cranking was "fun" for the first month -- everyone cranked one or two loads.  But then they all disappeared and cranking was left to me.  So, I decided to motorize it.  Those motorizing kits sure can be costly though.  A DIY motorizing kit was in needed.

Wet grinder for wheat berries?

February 15, 2022 - 3:13pm -- bytebreader

Hi all,

My brother recently got a dal / lentil grinder for dosas. For those not familiar, apparently the technique for making dosas is to soak the dal, and then grind the wet dal into a paste of sorts, which is then fermented…well that recipe is a whole other cool story. But what really caught my attention was the wet grinder — I looked inside and it was basically a flour grinder (to my untrained eye).

Could this grinder all grind dry wheat berries into flour?  I’ll check the manufacturer’s specs, but given its label as a dal grinder, perhaps not.
