Hi to everybody

Hi to everybody. I've missed not being on this forum over the past few months. My husband was diagnosed with early Parkinson's disease mid-August and that really threw us for a loop. I've had MS for 40 years and although I am very active and strong in many ways, I can't walk very fast any more. Anyway, we've had to make a lot of decisions about whether to stay where we are or move, plan for the future, get educated on his disease, etc. I just felt too distracted to continue participating.

Plus I think I literally wore my oven out testing for PR's new book. I finally got a new oven installed last month.

Anyway, we're over the shock and awe of our situation now, and I have an oven again, so I'm looking forward to participating again in this forum.

I haven't made any bread since mid-August. I hope my SD starter can be revived.

I guess that qualifies as "an excused absence!" It sounds like you've been through a lot the past few months.

Best wishes for you and your husband (and your oven, and your neurologist)! Happy to see you back and looking forward to seeing what comes out of the new oven.

Good to see you back, Pamela.

Am sorry to hear of your husband's diagnosis.  While there have been some great medical advances made in recent years, it's still a tough disease.

Keep your positive attitude going - and congrats on that new oven!

Warm regards,

Lindy

I am sorry to hear about your husband but glad to hear that you are coping with the situation and are back with us. My dad was diagnosed with Parkinson about 10 years ago and he is managing it quite well. My best wishes to you both.

I've missed your friendly advice and comments around here.  So sorry to hear about your husband; my father has Parkinson's too.  There is so much that can be done now - I wish you both strength and good health.

Hi Pamela,

I really missed your comments because you were one of the few supportive ones when I was new in TFL.  So glad to have you back.  But sorry to hear about your husband's illness.  I will offer prayers.

Let your oven do the talking!  Really glad you're back.  Hang in there.

Pamela you've been a piece of sunshine at this site. I hope things brighten up for you and your husband.

I look forward to reading your terrific posts and comments. BTW your sourdough batter for onion rings is great on cod. We sourdoughed everything one night.

All the best to you.

I really appreciate all the nice comments! I'm glad to be back. I just took my badly neglected SD starter out of the refrigerator and am hoping that it will be back to normal in 2 or 3 days!

Pamela, Glad and happy you are back. You were really missed.  I am hopeful you and your husband will be restored to good and well managed health. May your fragrant breads be the catalyst to make it happen.

Thanks, Al. Things really are getting better. We are both fighters, in the good sense of the word. It was just the shock of the diagnosis, I think. Jim looks so healthy; we just couldn't believe it. I've had Multiple Sclerosis for 40 years. I've been very lucky with the disease, but it has really taken its toll on my ability to walk over the last 5 years. I'm still moving but at a snail's pace. We always thought that Jim would be able to take care of me if necessary and then found ourselves looking at each other and wondering what we were going to do. Hopefully I'll be able to maintain my ability to walk and Jim's Parkinson's will progress very slowly.

I missed you.  I came back yesterday from Taiwan visiting my parents and friends over there and read your post just now.  I am very sorry to hear about your news.   I hope you manage to bake as much as you want!

Great to have you back.
