Must be a pizza weekend....

It has rained for 4 days now. We are all stir crazy, so we made pizza. The kids did their own toppings. This one was just pepperoni. As they say in the papers, " A good time was had by all" .

I'm sure yours was not as bad as you let on! Well maybe the parchment paper flavor might have took a little off, but we have all had one of those days! Thank goodness we can look at it with a sense of humor!

just because my children happily ate the pizza in question, there was never a compliment or a thanks mom. I got no "atta girl" for coming up with the rainy day neat thing to occupy their time. BUT had the pizza of NOT been good, I would of quickly received a " Mama, this isn't as good as the ones in town! I'm not eating this!"   ; )

My husband wanted me to clear all this up , in case any one thought we might of actually spent quality time as a family!

   P. S. Oh yea, I do as a mom get the last laugh. I secretly cook and process carrots and sneak them into all things tomato without them knowing... can't taste them, don't have a clue!  AH HAA HAA ( evil sinister laugh!)

compliment on the pizza, but for all your help. I know I'm not quite there yet, but maybe my shot didn't make your EYES BLEED this time! I have come to the conclusion that I may never be able to take pictures in this house without the aid of a light box. So as you my teacher would have instructed, I got my pizza and camera and went out into the rainy, (but natural)  light. I got a lot of strange looks as neighbors drove by : )  but it was worth it. The picture was much improved over my others and the Pizza wasn't bad either!

Mouthwatering looking pizza!  I bet the kids loved it...they like it best without all the fancy toppings!  My littlest grandaughter only eats cheese pizza!

Quaid likes only cheese, and Emily likes Grilled Chicken Bacon Ranch! That could really kill the pizza on the fly routine, so when we grill chicken, I go ahead and grill extras and prep them for the freezer. Then we only take out a handful and it thaws while the bacon is cooking. I didn't get a shot of it. When I came in from taking the pepperoni shots, it was being happily munched!

I was thinking about you the other day! Glad you think the pizza looked yummy! It  must have been, the kids left nothing! Pizza is a fun thing to make with kids, isn't it? It doesn't have to be perfect and even my three year old can apply toppings.  I like to give them their own piece of dough to play with. Some of our favorite photo's are of the kids with flour on their hands and faces playing with dough! Good to hear from you Chahira!

Wow!  Your pizza photo looks like a pro shot!  Do you make your own sauce?  It's so vivid!

I laughed, because it's a pizza weekend for my husband and I as well!  Yours look lovely, and frankly, I think there's something about picking your own pizza topping that makes you a little kid no matter who you are!  (I made dough for my 16-year-old brother on my last family visit, and he refused to make a pizza unless it could be shaped like a cat!)

Your frozen grilled chicken idea is a good one - thought I would add my own recommendation - this sounds goofy, maybe, but I can't praise enough the addition of "crab" on a pizza, by which I mean surimi fake frozen Krab sticks.  I know, I know, they aren't real crab, but trust me, in the oven, with the cheese and sauce and time and temperature, they somehow become a painfully perfect, chewy, sweet topping!

May every weekend be a pizza one!

I owe my photo taking to ehanner on here! I was absolutely killing everyone with my pictures and Eric took pity on me and really helped me out. I have a ways to go but they are so much better than before.

I did not make this sauce, but I did add the sneaky carrots puree to it like I told Pamela above. Don't tell my children! They can't taste it, can't see it in there, and it's a way to get antioxidants into something they will eat. The pizza was nothing fancy, but they were right on. Sauce, Boars Head pepperoni ( My children's fav.) and jack cheese  and good parmesan. We haven't tried the crab on pizza yet, good idea! My husband secretly likes the imitation crab too!

There are so many great pizza combinations!  This one just never sounded that appealing to me .... but it is a favorite of the teenagers here...it's Bar-B-Q Chicken Pizza!!  The sauce is still the same but it is topped with B-B-Qued Chicken...they absolutely flip over it and it is the most requested pizza at the pizza parties for the volley ball team!  Sylvia

My husband and I have both tried the BBQ chicken Pizza and thought YUCK! But like where you live, the kids LOVE it. Go figure. Must be a youth thing we just can't get. And I think I'm open minded, and try not to think "old" but....I don't have to like it, just cook it!

At least you tried it!!  They couldn't convince me too!  Not even the Pizzola Guys!

Hi I'm a new guy here and also live in the south (Apalachicola,Fl) and I've just finished viewing your blog/pictures.Thanks.Hope to be able to do those things someday.Good looking garden also.We have a garden every year but never can anything. We give most to the neighbors etc.Got lots of figs.Gave away 24 qts and kept 12 qts in the freezer.Used to put up in jars but was a pain so we cook them and store in zip lok bags frozen.Much easier.Made about 4 gal. of chili and 7 gal of spaghetti sauce (all in the freezer) with our tomatoes, peppers, onions.I was impressed with the healthy looking corn in your pics. Can you remember what kind it was you planted. We've had no success with corn.Had some seed from the dollar store and it didn't produce much of anything. My wife is actually the gardener.I just run the tiller and follow directions. The pics you've posted make me hungry!

The corn you refer to is Merit and Golden Queen. Both are sweet, usually if one does not do well the other will for me. But this year the drought and heat came at the wrong time and it went to the dogs, but the peas did well. You can't win 'em all. I bet in you do well with tomatoes though. My Dad lives on the coast in South Ga and has your sandy soil and grows the best tomatoes ,carrots, and potatoes. We do can most of our stuff out of self defence. If you ever have a full freezer go out or the power be off in storm for several days, those jars start to look good! But what ever you grow, just have fun. You mention the figs. Do you make fig preserves? It is one of my kids favorites. For a snack I make homemade sugar cookies and smush a fig preserve in between 2 cookies and let it sit a while. Sorta like a Fig Newton but not ; ) Yum!

Yes we make preserves but no longer use the mason jars.We cook them with sugar as usual. After cooking I add a little lemon juice (maybe 4 oz) to my big pot which does around 7 qts per load, then after cooled we bag them in qt sliders and freeze the ones we keep and deliver the rest to friends.Neither of us eat a lot of sugar and 10 or 12 qts will last us the year unless our out of state relatives visit.I see your point about long power outages and am now rethinking things,LOL.We had a tornado few years back. Was longest outage I've had here since '57 when I moved here.I believe it was just over 24 hours.I was lucky I reckon because even with the loss of juice I didn't lose anything and the freezers were both well stocked.I used a camp stove for my coffee and minimal cooking and gas laterns for reading.Really missed that A/C however.Got a generator now but it's only 6500 watts and never having had to use it yet,I really don't know what all I could keep going or how long my 30 gal of gas might last us.We'll try the corn next year again. Thanks
