Teaching an old dog new tricks

I was sitting by my woodstove yesterday while the snow and ice kept me home from work.  What better way to spend the day than baking.  i have been wanting to try something new and turned to the internet.  WOW!!! What a find when I stumbled onto "The Fresh Loaf". This website is not only wonderful to peruse, but the Italian Bread I made was fantastic (both in flavor and textxure).  And it was great for sopping up that ratatouille.

I have been baking for 35 years and in the last year or so been talking about trying some artisan bread baking.....NOW this world  is now open to me!!!  Thanks to everyone who shares recipes, and I will do the same when I have time.

Welcome!  I agree that sitting next to the woodstove with a good book in hand while a blizzard rages on the other side of the window is a lovely way to spend an afternoon!  All the better with a couple hunks of freshly baked bread to nibble on.

Do try David's ficelles.  You won't be disappointed.

That's all I can do. Sigh. How I'd love to be on your side of the world :)

Cold weather and a raging fire is my idea of happiness but I live in the driest state in Australia and there is a long summer ahead.

I'll just go back to day dreaming now.  Enjoy your winter, what a fabulous way to spend the day ;)
