What happened to the Gallery?

It was here last week, but not now...  What happened?  What did I miss?

The server and content management system were upgraded.  The new gallery code is not stable enough for me to run it yet.  But all of the gallery entries should still be in the DB, so I can restore the gallery when the code is ready.

In the meantime, join our photo pool on Flickr!  If people posted photos there instead, I could embed a widget here containing those images.   That would give you the power of Flickr (a much better photo sharing tool than mine was) as well as the opportunity to share the images with bread nerds here.

I started a photo group on Photo Bucket too.  Please join.

Hey Floyd, what a lot of work all this new system must have taken, well done and thank you. If I sign up for Flickr would it be easier for me to post photos, being as I haven't figured out the old way? I would like to prove that I am really baking bread, not pretending! A.

I suspect you'll find it easier - flickr is kind of dumb about hiding the html code for how to link to a picture that is there - but uploading pictures to their website is REALLY easy, and they even take care of resizing and all sorts of such stuff.

Once you have a picture up there - there's a couple of ways to grab a picture that is over there and stick it into your comments and posts here too.

To get the picture address you go to the image on Flickr and click the little button at the top that says "All Sizes" (this is a silly place to hide it but there you go...) and you will find a page that lets you pick what size of image (Medium is probably best for this website) and at the bottom of the page with the picture that you want is "Grab the photo's URL"

(I am usually lazy and when I am in Flickr and I want to put a picture in a post, I just right-click on it and select "Copy Image Location" (in Firefox - but it's something very similar on the other browsers) from the little popup menu that comes up and that's another shortcut to getting the image URL.)

Then come to your comment or post and click the image button and then put your curson in the blank where it says "Image URL" and just paste (right click again and select paste from that menu) the address in.

Flickr has a whole lot of options for how to get pictures up there though, and lots of the work is done for you - stuff like resizing the pictures and all that, so it's much simpler.

Thanks, Dorata! It SOUNDS as though I should be able to do it - we'll see. A.

Thanks for the update.  And thanks for providing such a well organized, informative and attractive website.  I've been a menber for a whole 4 days now, and I love the site and the members I've met so far.  It's a great place!
