shaft knob replacement for Ankarsrum
Hello, Was wondering if anyone knew of an online store that sells replacement shaft knobs for Ankarsrum Original. It tightens the dough hook arm on the mixer body. Its internal thread is made of ... plastic; I eventually stripped it to the point that the hook arm can no longer be fixed in a desired position. Would greatly appreciate any reference! Cheers, h.

The last time I was in need of help, the service department was in Upper Saddle River NJ and answered the phone at 201.785.8840.
PS - on at least some models there is also a spring that sits inside the knob at the bottom of the threads and provides a pre-load for the knob so that it doesn't walk off the end of the stud. If you don't have one of those, be sure to get one.
You might be able to make a replacement knob with a suitable nut and spring and some molding epoxy. I didn't check, but the shaft may have metric threads.
Good to know there is also a spring. Yes, I was about ready to do a DIY fix involving several nuts, a drill press, and epoxy, when the US importer of Ankarsrum has generously offered to replace the knob under warranty. That was a super fast response! Hope the replacement arrives in a few days so that I don't have to knead this mostly rye dough manually for half an hour.
My knob has a metal insert with good threads (2011 version). That is what you should get as a replacement. Spring shown drops into the bore and pre-loads the threads after the knob is turned down far enough to engage it (a TINY bit of graphite is the perfect lubricant). The mechanism is designed to gradually release the tension and allow the roller to run out toward the rim rather than stay withdrawn where you put it. Somewhat subtle and nowhere do the instructions tell you how it works or what to expect.

The Ankarsrum rep has sent me instructions on how to avoid stripping the thread -- this probably means I'm getting an exact replacement with plastic thread and no spring. Or the spring got lost before I bought the mixer because I'm pretty sure the knob has never been taken off. Thank you again for the help!
You can make a plastic thread that is closer to an interferrence fit and still work without binding and thus does not require a pre-load. Also less expensive to make than a metal insert plus a spring. But it does wear.
That said, after I figured out how to use the mixer, I rarely tightened the nut down far enough to hold the roller off the rim. Occasionally, but not often. Actually, bagel dough was one of the cases where it was useful and that was only a few times per year.
The replacement package includes new identical knob, spring, washer and instructions on how to properly tighten the knob. Apparently, the old spring has been lost. The response from Ankarsrum and delivery of the replacement were extremely fast! Just in time for dough mixing tomorrow morning.

I have no idea if the number is current or if they still have the service contract for the mixer.
When I got my mixer, there was no spring so I struggled for a few weeks trying to figure out how to control it. Finally called them and asked some questions which was the mechanism for discovering that there was supposed to be a spring and that I didn't have one. They were prompt in shipping a "replacement" spring.
