Alan Scott Oven - Join to existing wall

Hi all, my name is Matt and I'm new here.

I'm busy planing for a bread oven for home and I'd like the oven to be accessed from my kitchen which means keying it into the existing exterior wall. I've seen one or two mentions that this design is referenced in plan package 1 but can't find any additional info. Has anyone done this and can you give any advice for or against? I don't see it being very complicated to do, except that the flue would need to be angled backwards out of the house wall. Also it's a load bearing wall, but if supported while the front face of the oven is being built then I think this should be fine. Here's a pic of the general idea.

Any info would be very much appreciated. Thanks in advance, Matt.

What books and website resources are you using?

Ah, I should have mentioned that. Apart from this website, I'm using The Bread Builders as well as various build threads online. At this point I'm assessing the costs for everything and that would obviously increase by adding the oven onto the existing structure. I don't feel like I need plans as the book is pretty clear, but I did read in this post that there might be some info about this in one of the old plan packages... Otherwise, I'm hoping I can just add a lintel and go from there. Thanks

Do you expect to use your oven as a "mass heater" ?

Thanks a lot for those links. Looks really useful.

RE mass heater, not really, no. I thought about it momentarily and then decided to keep it simple rather.

We also like the idea of a wfo accessible from indoors and are talking about doing one on the wall of the walk-out basement of a house we'll be moving into in a few weeks.

If you want a copy of Alan Scott's Ovencrafter's plans, I can email you a pdf.

Quick update on this topic. I knocked a hole in the wall but at the last minute decided to rotate the oven 90 degrees so it opens up onto our stoep instead. No big deal except for the unnecessary hole in the wall.. I think it would have been extremely easy to build the oven opening into the house as per my original pic though.

Anyway, after what feels like an heroic amount of labour, I put the cladding on the oven yesterday. Here are some pics from just before. Thanks again to Tom for sending me the plans.
