Not bread related - but kitchen decor related

My daughter has always been interested in art and animals and taxidermy and plants etc.  She loves reptiles and makes reptile display cases with living walls.   She made a panel of living wall (bark and moss and branches and succulents and ferns etc.) and mounted it in her kitchen.  It's not finished yet, there will be more - but it looked so fabulous that I took a picture and wanted to share it here.

So is this going to be a reptile case???  I think some geckos would be nice in the kitchen...take care of any weevils or meal moths...LOL!

I hate to think how much something like that would cost to do...

LOL --  No I don't think she plans to have her snakes living over the sink.  But don't go giving her ideas!

I think she ought to at least have one sweet basil plant in there though.

Well. basil would be nice...but why not mushrooms in that woodsy space???  You know that you can get mushroom kits...and my backyard used to look like her wall...so she could grow mushrooms...LOL!   Just don't leave the door open for the squirrels to come harvest the mushrooms, cause they will.

Hm. Maybe we've missed noticing an extremely beneficial symbiotic relationship: the mushroom and the snake.

Snakes probably cultivate mushrooms. Which attract squirrels. Tasty treats for everyone. ?

My squirrels...learned to ring the door bell...or run in the open patio door and ask for a biscuit...Suzy LOVED her some biscuits.  I had muddy hand prints from them all around the door bell.  Took me a while to stop accusing my son's friends of ringing.

I spent a lot of time watching them harvest mushrooms...and as squirrels will do...they take pieces and bury them...then I'd have mushrooms the next year where I had no mushrooms...like my flower bed and edges of vegetable garden!  I was forever hunting the fungi ball so I could did it up and move it back where I wanted them.  I also watched them "hang" their mushrooms in the branches of the pine trees...near the center of the cluster of trees...where the ground stayed fairly dry most of the year which is rare up here.

So essentially they were drying their mushrooms.  My son used to find them when he climbed up to his platform stretching between 4 of the inner trees.

So squirrels know how to garden and dry their harvest.

Haha excellent - this means I can probably train several herds of squirrels to dig onions and put them up properly. We'll travel around at harvest time and hire ourselves out, me and the squirrels. I'm gonna be rich! ☺️

Good luck with training the squirrels.  I had to disconnect my door bell. Then I got Suzy slapping the patio door.  She trained me.

Don't think onions are a thing for them...but I always had pumpkin, peanuts, corn and mushrooms coming up in my well tended flower beds.  My neighbors actually blamed me for the squirrels digging up their flower beds.  So training them was not something I did very well.

I did have a mushroom garden in a bag from a garden source...damn squirrels just loved checking each one for ripeness.   Gave up that pipe dream and planted the bag in the wooded area and let them have em.

So perhaps growing mushrooms in a vertical garden is not a good idea.

Lots of steam rising from the sink must make the ferns feel right at home.

At first I thought it was over a bathtub.  I love vertical gardens.  Are there any lights?  Are the plants rotated with some other plants that get more sun?

I think she just mists it with a water spritzer every so often and the steam from washing dishes.  It's right by a window so it gets plenty of light.  But I think she deliberately picks things to plant that do well in shade.   This will probably be a learning experience in progress as it's the first time she's put one up on her own wall.   Normally she builds these inside a snake enclosure.

I tried a small vertical garden inside with a selection of air plants.  It just never looked in real life like I saw it in my dreams.
