Tip - Oven Cleaning

Oven Cleaning.  A subject near and dear to our hearts :(

I’m retired and any thought of work is repulsive ;-)  But sometimes a man gotta’ do what a man gotta’ do...

If you look closely at my profile image you’ll notice that I’m peeking through the oven window as I watch the bread bake. Unfortunately, after many loaves have succumb to high heat, steam, stones, steels, cast iron, Granite Ware, and God knows what else, the window becomes difficult to see through. For those that don’t know there is an easy way to clean the stubborn baked on mess. Get a bowl and put in a handful or so of baking soda. Then add enough vinegar to make a thick paste. Smear the paste on the inside of the oven door on the glass. Let it sit 30 minutes or so. You will be surprised how easy it is to wipe the gunk off. If anything stubborn remains use a single edged razor blade to remove.

Another labor saver that has worked for me is THESE MATS . Place 2 of them, side by side, to catch anything that falls to the bottom. They are inexpensive, lightweight, and do a great job of making clean up easy.

If you have other ideas or tips, let us know.

Over clean works well and less trouble, IMO, if you don't mind the smell. Be careful, though; the gunk can drip through the door vents into the area between the glass panes and is the devil to get out.

used the broiler, burnt whatever he was broiling and smoked my oven door, it needs cleaning inside between the glass layers.  Got any ideas other than to take the door apart?

because I have the same issue. Putting paper towels on a coat hanger and slipping it between the glass panels isn’t cutting it!

Mini and Danni. The door should’t be too difficult to disassemble. Check out this video.

My glass only needed external cleaning.

I just had an idea. How about when I go over to Wendy’s to clean her oven, I stop by and do the same for you two girls? ;-)) We’ll have a blast visiting...

It isn’t that easy! We have had the door apart to replace the hinges. At that time, we looked at how to take the glass off the door to clean it, and even though hubby is super handy, it wasn’t something we were about to take on. And I really, really wanted to!

Yeah, I have sort of the same problem. I use farina (wheatlets) to dust my peels, and the stones end up covered with the stuff. But I also have bits of it in between the glass panels in the oven door. It's a bit annoying but not being a clean freak I just try to ignore it. I'll let Danny worry about it when he comes to clean the oven. :)
