Feel good bake :)

After recent bakes I have been a bit disheartened. Earlier this week I got the Red Star Yeast newsletter and they featured “Unbelievable Sweet Orange rolls” - a variation on cinamon rolls.  I followed the recipe exactly (I made a slightly bigger dough and had to bake some rolls seperately) and whilst mine wasn’t as pretty as theirs, it went down a treat with friends tonight. it feels good to have a sucess and the taste was really nice - a combination of orange and cinamon.  yum!

Happy baker tonight

Sweet Orange rolls with Cinnamon sounds and looks wonderful.

Lovely bake Leslie.

Nothing like a good bake as a feel good factor.

a cup of tea !! Look so yummy. I still have my Fleishman's yeast packages from the 70's !!  They came in a set of three packages and on the backs were recipes. I followed them to the " T" back when I first started baking and never ever had a fail. There is a lot to be said for " keep it simple" and " tried and true". Nothing wrong at all with a regular recipe with good ole active dry yeast. Hope you have some of those lovely rolls left for a snack. c

None left now though.  and yes, making a fast yeasted dough was great for a change.  Only thing I did wrong was drizzle the topping a little too early, next time will wait until cooler.  Some of the old recipes are wonderful, that is for sure.

thanks trailrunner

at this orange roll recipe.  It's a copycat version of the world-famous (okay, in Birmingham, AL, anyway) rolls served by The Club.  We had the good fortune to enjoy the originals when we lived there and this recipe comes very close to those served in The Club.

Your rolls are drool-worthy in their own right.

It was interesting dough to make, as mixing and kneading were only short, short rest, then roll, shape and proof.  Any other enriched doughs I have made (and there are not many) needed much more kneading to get gluten development. Still, the rolls were soft, moist and very delicious.

thank you Paul

trees but no time   Going out of town for a month.  Still next year you know this is going to be at the top of the bake list.  Right now it looks like looking at yours will have to do!  No reason to worry about baking bread.  Your bread is very close to being perfect.  At least that is what Lucy says and she is never wrong about these things - not ever.  Less proof .....better bread!

Well done and happy baking Lesie

on my tree, will go for another month or maybe longer then it will be our autumn and no more oranges until the Californian Navel starts ripening in August.. love these especially, but the present one, not sure of variety is very very juicy although not such a strong flavour.  But then, being able to go outside and pick your own is truly wonderful, isn't it!  I may even get to do this bake again, lol.

Still many thanks dabrownman, happy travels

this was a new combination for me and yes everyone loved them.  I can only make this sort of thing to share in a group as the two of us would take too long to eat it, but I think I will have to bake it again before my oranges run out!

Happy baking Cedarmountain, look forward to more of your amazing bakes.
