Ordered new mixer...yayyyy!!!!!

i did it..! I ordered a new mixer ...I am in love...not what a lot of bakers would choose, but what I love....Kitchenaid bowl lift K5 no I’m not swearing...lol...I know serious bakers would never, but my heart won....delivery Friday. Will keep you posted...surely someone out there likes K.A....

There are a lot of KA users completely happy with their choice; even bread bakers. Just be sure to stay within its limitations. Don't expect it to handle the job as easily as an Ankarsrum, for example, would for the tougher doughs.

Now go enjoy your new, early Christmas gift to yourself, as I did with my Assistent (Ankarsrum) seven years ago.

I am now hoping it arrives in one piece with no problems, I could be lucky....you are so right about the heart wants, and i am glad you are happy with your Assistant (Ank). One day.....I will get there...lol

Yay for you!  I've been using my KitchenAid 5 qt bowl lift for bread, cookies, and cakes for 20 years, and love it.  I hope you have as much fun with yours.  Yes, I have looked at the stronger mixers, but since my KA works just fine, I've not been all that tempted to change.

its such a beautiful thing, can hardly contain myself...it’s great to hear yours has lasted so long, but people are saying the older ones are the best. But I will not be exceeding the speed limit or work load...one loaf at a time, that’s just so I can bake more often....lol

How exciting! It's always fun to get a new toy, especially after you've researched it and planned for a while. :)

I think you'll be fine for home baking, particularly with the bowl lift model (glad you did this!). I wanted the Ank partially because I need to regularly make four to six loaves and got tired of doing it two loaves at a time.

One other thing you might consider (or ask for Christmas!) is the paddle attachment with the rubber scraper. I don't think it comes standard with your model, but it is a real blessing to have when mixing batters and things.

I agonised over that machine for so long, I’m still stressing over it arriving in one piece and in perfect working order. I know the Ank would be better for a more productive baker but I think this will do me for quite awhile as long as the “force” is with me...I would like to get the scraper but I think I would like to get a spiral dough hook first mine is coming with the C hook and the spiral is not in the list of bits to buy. I think spiral was sold for 5qt bowl lift models 5 and 5 Plus. I have seen some on eBay but will have to check that they would fit...will see how I get on with the C hook....

I have a KA.  It's 20 some odd years old.  I used it to make smaller batches of bread with softer doughs.  Do read the instructions and follow the limits of the mixer!

Oh, but you can whip egg whites in that machine, and heavy cream, and you can make a triple recipe of sugar cookies - the kind you roll out, and you can make a QUADRUPLE recipe of chocolate chip cookies if your butter is nice and warm, and you can make cakes and butter creams....

There is a lot you can do with a KA.  I wish you decades of happy baking with it!

I used to love making 7-minute frosting with my KA. Just turn it on, slowly pour the sugar syrup into the egg whites and let it do all the whipping for 7 minutes. I haven't tried with the Ankarsrum yet. Hopefully it is just as easy. :)

I have to bake a heap in the first month...think I better make a list..if there are any problems it should show up in the first month....can you imagine how much frosting you would fit in the Ank.....lol

I hope I am even half as lucky as you have been with KA. I went for the bowl lift especially for bread making one loaf at a time...lol I will follow all

instructions to the letter but hopefully she will cope with my meagre output...lol. Can’t wait ! Delivery Friday or Saturday...I will share my joy when she arrives...lol

It's a good machine.

If some one asks you what you'd like for your birthday, you can tell them another bowl, another whip, and an other beater.  I can't tell you how often I've been happy to have two of those things. I have one dough hook, but two of everything else.

Load pictures of your new treasure!

list has started hadster, flex scraper and have seeked out a spiral dough hook to fit the K5 don’t know how I will get on with the j hook that comes with it. So I may add another bowl to the list....pics of my treasure will be loaded as soon as she arrives.

Congratulations on you purchase! I thought all Kitchenaid mixers came with a dough hook as well as a paddle?  As for your mixer, my 1st mixer was a hand held one, still have it, my second mixer was a Sunbeam stand mixer, was made to get rid of it after I bought my 4th mixer, my 3rd mixer is a refurbished kitchenaid pro600, and a year ago I bought my ankarsrum. its What you can afford at the time, I’m sure you too will own an Ankarsrum soon!   I use my Ankarsrum for bread only, and my KA for everything else. I bought my KA in 2011, and would you believe that it came with an Ankarsrum motor?  It was.  very loud for a mixer, I replaced the motor about a month ago, I don’t remember the manufacturer of it, but, it sure is a lot quieter now!  Did you know KA recommends changing the grease in the gearcase once a year?

 Enjoy your new mixer,

Terry

yes my beautiful KA is coming with a dough hook and paddle, but......lots of complaints about J hook not kneading as well as a spiral, so will see how the J hook goes but have found a spiral hook that will fit for future purchase if necessary. Same with the paddle it comes included but....there is one with a flex edge and you know girls need accessories...lol so it’s on the list for future...lol I am very new to mixers just bought my first ever stand mixer a year ago..But have discovered the love of making bread.I do have and have had a few hand mixers. But so excited about my KA coming soon ...I hope...not dispatched yet ...causing a bit of stress...but I am staying calm. I am only baking for two ....kids have grown so Ank would be a bit of overkill, but you never know I might end up with one some day...fingers crossed my KA stays healthy for a long time...I didn’t know about the yearly grease change. I have read that originally the grease was suppose to last the life of the mixer, but maybe things have changed...but I hear you can buy it online. I will keep an eye open for any leaks...lol

Tech notes: Digital cameras usually default to a landscape file format. the image is 3200x2400 px, so I scaled it down to 800x600 to reduce the file size by about 10x and then rotated it 90deg. I renamed to file to macettes-lil-red-wagon.jpg and uploaded it.

What else have you been baking?

it’s been a baking frenzy around here....freezer is full of bread then sneaked in some cookies and then a loaf cake. Will have to give the KA a day off. It’s very different from my other mixer still trying to get used to it. I am missing the spiral dough hook so might have to consider an addition...:-)

I know what it was like when my mixer arrived.  Hubby lifted it up, me worrying about it too heavy for him (he had surgery on both shoulders two years ago and I still worry), and got it out.  Looked at it and all the accessories that came with it.  That was a week ago and we now have dough rising in the bathroom.  It has been almost two hours and I think it will be ready in half a hour, we keep our heat low (67 degree) so put a heater in the bathroom to help warm the room up.

Anyhow, I remember the joy of getting it, the looking forward to making bread, any type of bread, that isn't store bought.  Enjoy your new "toy".

It is so exciting...such joy ! My heart was in my mouth when husband was dragging out of the box fear he would drop it...lol. I put my dough in the microwave with a glass of hot water, works treat . More bread today still getting use to new dough hook. Could really do with a bigger freezer...
