Photobucket used to be able to load on third-party sites (such as this one) for free, but this changed a few months ago.  At that time, any existing photos hosted there were changed to local loading only, unless the user paid a ridiculous and exorbitant fee to allow them to show up on other sites.  Users who chose not to pay that fee now have the error message showing up instead of their photos on all other sites.

Many Fresh Loaf users over the years had used Photobucket to host their pictures.  With posters like the one you linked, they are no longer active here and so have not had any reason to come back and replace the photos from a different host site.  Many posters who are still active just have so many older threads and blogs that it would be an immense amount of time and effort for them to go back and replace all of those photos, and so have either left them as is or are gradually working at changing them.

It is unfortunate that some of the most popular and helpful posts from years back no longer have the photos, but the text is still very helpful, and you can always ask in a new thread if you have a specific question about a posted formula.  Even if that particular person is no longer active here, there are often others who are still around who have also tried that formula and can answer your question.

Keep baking happy!

I noticed this about txfarmer's stellar legacy in the TFL archive when I commented to you, Ice, about spelt breads.  It is such a shame that both old and newbie TFLoafers can no longer be inspired by her holier-than-thou crumbs -- they were marvels of delicate dough handling, expert fermentation management and not too shabby photography.  Odd though that her bakes that Floyd features, among others, down the right-hand column of TFL pages have the images intact.  So at least some of them are still accessible.  I wonder if she would offer them up if someone asked.  They sure set the standard.

so I am very glad that I got to see many of them before the Photobucket fiasco dropped them all!

I'm guessing that Floyd copied the "headline" pic over to his server when he got permission to feature the original post on the top of the front page, but there wouldn't have been any need at the time for him to copy over all of the pics in the body.

With so many older photos missing, it'll be up to all of you more expert bakers and photographers to post new stuff to continue the inspiration!

Best, Laurie

Thank you. That is too bad... I guess I should dive deep into this site and find other recipes just as good.

Currently looking for a good and true baguette de tradition française recipe to work on.
