It's not the bread but the plastic wrapping that the study accuses of contributing to global warming. Leave it to Breitbart to purposely mislead. As bread bakers we're actually contributing to the planet by avoiding supermarket bread.
You got that where? Granted that the article is editorial, it does quote the paper's authors and links to the paper (behind a pay-wall). The paper's abstract says they evaluated each step in the production of a loaf of bread for its contribution to greenhouse gases. There is no specific mention of packaging, which I take as its being trivial. On the other hand, just fertilization alone accounts for 40%.
If you know better, link to your evidence.
Regarding Breitbart, like their editorial viewpoint or not, they are very good at citing their source material so you can see for yourself.
I posted this as a humorous look at the meaningless "studies" being done in a publish or perish, grant seeking academia.
I have long said that much global warming is caused by man. Man needs to eat, have a place to live and work, keep warm or cool in those places, needs to get around in vehicles, travel in planes, move water, fuel and electricity, have stuff and all stuff causes global warming, pets too. Everything we have and do causes global warming..... we even exhale CO2. Without humans, all would be perfect in the world - just perfect. We obviously need to kill ourselves off to fix this problem - it is the only way - except for me, my family, friends and pets of course. So, have a heart, get to it you evil, global warming people - you need to save us....from all of you. The quicker you die the better off we will be and feel. Thanking you in advance!

And so is my dad except she was his Auntie. She was a teacher of some note and quite well thought of inside and out of the family. She was the only one of her era that made it past 4th grade so she got to teach kids stuff that was really worth knowing :-)
She also was a big global warmer in her own right as well. She had livestock to feed the family and they really put out methane...... the worst kind of global warming gasses. During the age of the dinosaurs the planet was much, much warmer than it is today and it had to be because those huge animals were off gassing huge amounts of methane something terrible. Once they were wiped out the planet instantly cooled off so killing off humans today will do the same thing - save Mother Earth - again. It's not all about us so we have to go once and for all.

The problem with these studies is they're a single digit in a complex equation. Do we now stop eating? Is it now the new evil in global warming and not the billions of cars on the road, millions of planes in the sky, factories belching toxic waste? No, it's bread!
It's in the news because it makes headlines.
