WOW!   

A side note......are you a little bit worried about the wood beam above the door opening?  or does the fire and heat stay pretty much inside?

The wood beam is 9 inches above the arch. It does get hot, about 180 degrees. With the 1/2 inch concrete board as a fireblock it should be fine though.

Looks, ehrm, easy...,

Is that an original design? Or did you beg, borrow and steal (fair and square of course)? Beautiful in both design and efficiency.

Now the critical question - does it bake bread well?...,

I used general ratios for building the oven. Opening is equal to the radius of the oven. Dome can be reduced up to 25 percent of the floor diameter. Opening height is 63 percent of the oven dome height. Floor has 15 percent more thickness than walls. Thats it, everything I did was based off of those considerations.
