Is it a really bad sign...?

Is it a really bad sign when you stand in front of your newly loaded oven for 15 minutes and switching the internal light on repeatedly, just to watch the magic of dough rising inside? ;-)

Happy baking! Colin.

Colin,

Ya know,, I really don't think so.  But, a really bad sign would be if you tried to climb in the oven with your bread or sleep with it!!

Have FUN!

Bad sign, no, just really weird.

It's a bad sign when you leave the light on and sit there watching it proof for 8 hours.

... watching too much bake-off :-)

(Leave the light on!)

so pull up a chair to watch and like Gordon says, leave the light on.  Camera?  Tripod?   :)

film it to show at family reunions and weddings:-)  Lucy and i are always trying to bake with Mega Steam so we can see the lift that is, or isn't. going on.  Baking in a a DO, or covered in some kind of cloche isn't fun at all - It is just more waiting and we already have enough of that in the SD bread process!...

Happy baking .

as it seems like if you are a baking junkie, Colin. I bake all my breads in a Dutch oven nowadays, nothing much to watch actually but like what all people say, less is more.  I tend to anticipate the result even more and could not wait for the final minute before I get to uncover the pot. So in this case, I am not sure if you or me are in deeper trouble? : )

Does TFL has any prescription for such disorder?

Happy Baking,

Sandy

It think it is more of a syndrome ....and we certainly have the fix for that.  But, we can't tell you what it is because no one has ever completed the process to know if it works,:-)

Pyrex lids?

Thanks everyone for replies to this question so far, which have been truly entertaining.

I am now slight worried by Dabrownman's suggestion that the cure could be unobtainable.

I am just autloysing this weekend's 1-2-3 Sourdough and trying to decide between stone and Cloche.  I agree with FrugalBaker that there's an excitement from lifting the lid of a Dutch oven.

Fortunately, I doubt I have it quite so bad that I need to resort to camera and tripod at the suggestion of Drogon or Mini Oven.  As for BetsyMePoocho and Mixinator: No. Honestly. No intention whatsoever :-)

Happy baking, everyone!

I think it's really bad when your cats join you in watching the bread rise in the oven LOL... ;-)

Dunno, there's something inherently fascinating about watching a bread bake.

grass and corn grow, bread rising on the counter is about as exciting as it gets if you discount the rising it makes in the heat of the oven :-)

As has been mentioned, the only peculiarity in your behavior is turning off the oven light.

We call this activity "Bread (or pizza, etc.) TV."

Now, photographically documenting one's brother and elder son engaged in watching Pizza TV may cross the border into madness.

Happy baking!

So I've just taken delivery of a Rofco B40... So-far so good, but all I get now is a tiny little 100mm diameter "porthole" to gaze admiringly on my bread baking - and that's just to see the top shelf - 2 other shelves are completely hidden...

Enjoy your new oven, Gordon, but don't go scorching your eyebrows on the porthole! Happy baking! Colin
