I'm new and just posted my first question….

Good Morning… I'm Renee and new here, but not to baking. I've made yeast bread for years but only recently began baking sourdough…and I've ordered several 'artisan bread' books online and still I have questions about my sourdough! I hope to learn and find my answers here.  I'm a mother of 4; grandmother of 9 almost 10…. from the deep South. Can y'all tell?  ;)

Welcome. I miss the south sometimes. I bet baking there is much different than here in Montana, with my kitchen not getting above 71 degrees and humidity between 27% and 30% in the winter. I'm new to sourdough as well as baking in general but am having fun trying to recreate the taste I fell in love with growing up a few hours from San Francisco.

Yes, I'm sure your kitchen is much more pleasant than mine! It's half way decent outside today, but that won't last long….very humid, it has rained everyday since Saturday. Summer will be here long before the calendar says so! I'm excited to have a place to ask my questions... I have so many!

I meant to add that I just recently stumbled across this place and love the wealth of knowledge, the patient and easy explanations of the techniques people here use, and the excellent photography as well.

Thanks….I'm so happy with the answers to my little question this morning…So glad I found this place, too. Seems like everyone wants everyone to succeed! Amazing…. where did you live in the South?

lost the civil war but chafe at the occupation lasting some 150 years now:-)

Once you go SD it will b very hard to go back to yeast breads because SD breads are so much better.  It;s like giving up grits and cornbread at the same time!  Your question was a good one!

Welcome and happy baking

Ha!  About sourdough..I agree. I'm sold on the health benefits alone.  Me? Give up grits? Never. I'm just hoping they serve grits in Heaven.
