We 3 gmas finished our "retro dinner" month...

but you remember how it was... the leftovers will go on forever! Not really, this really made me wonder why there were leftovers back "in the day"... these meals were really well received and not much ended up repurposed. To end the month we made "roast beef with potatoes and vegetables, plus desserts... The lead in rolls are Barb's. She made a nice yeasted dinner roll, and was pleasantly surprised at the light texture and the fluffiness, after becoming such a tartine, sourdough bread guru... nice change for this dinner... Here is her crumb.

and her dinner plate. She had ice cream and cookies for dessert!

This is a great looking meal and the rolls... yummmy!

Helen's dinner plate looks amazing also...

she has some Jello with bananas, and a pretzel roll... looks like honey butter for the rolls.... YES! I can see why leftovers are missing here. This is what the roasting pan looked like at the beginning...

Good start and great finish... Well done!!! my sisters!

Mine is being stashed away to bring out later for heat-ups... I am in to making my own TV dinners, sort of...

  and Dessert...

Good old Jello with fruit cocktail and homemade Hershey's old-fashioned fudge... into the freezer goes the TV dinners.

In addition to these lovely dinners, I made raisin bread, Barb made Tartine loaves and Helen made Alaskan sourdough... just wanted to let you know we are on to another theme for next month... just haven't figured out what yet... any suggestions????

Happy Baking, Helen, Diane (me) and Barbra

and chicken with same veggies was Saturday dinner.  We all looked forward to both of them.  When both parents work the rest of the week's fare was not nearly as good.  No one could talk when Water Cronkite was on and Wonder Bread with margarine was served with every meal no matter what it was.  All kinds if jello something was big.  Granny loved lime jello with Mandarin oranges and of course her Key Lime pie.  Mom loved strawberry banana jello with bananas of course or orange jello with green grapes - Apple pie too.   Lots of cottage cheese with sugar dusting and apple sauce out of a can too for some reason.  Us 3 boys and Dad wolfed it all down and I don't ever remember any any leftovers except at Thanksgiving or Christmas.   Salads and greens were not at all necessary like they are today  except home canned green beans cooked with bacon ...canned peas and corn, creamed too once in a while when the corn wasn't fresh.

Your post brought back many fond memories.  Thanks for the great post and cooking together GMA's

Happy baking

Yep... the memories came back greatly with this month's baking and cooking those old fasthioned meals... we enjoyed reminishing about the rolls our gramma used to make and all the pot roasts in our past... creamed corn was a standard, but gramma mixed it with a can of whole corn too so it wasn't too soupy...and green beans were with almost every meal... peas too... I don't remember salads being a big deal either, in fact, I don't remember salads at all!!!! But boy do I remember lemon meringue pie!!! Did you notice that Barb couldn't leave off the applesauce... we had a great time, your memories jogged a few more of ours, thanks for your input... you really could have some suspiciously matching DNA in there somewhere. ;-)...

Keep making those seedy great breads!!! and pairing them with those great veggies and sunsets!

everything you Three Grandmas do!   Thanks for another fun post.   Being a baking Grandma is wonderful.  Two of my granddaughters (2 and 4 years old) just left my home with their mom and their box of cookies.   I love to see their smiles as they show off their cookie decorating skills.  Keep up the good work, Ladies!   Embth

Those rolls remind me of the ones the cafeteria ladies would make when I was a kid.  I sure did like them!

Looks great ladies, well done!
