Loaf of bread inside a roasting pan?

Can you bake a loaf of bread inside a large roasting pan if you set it in a glass loaf pan?  I have been using a crock insert which works but I would like to have my bread be able to come out shaped more like sandwich bread.  Should I put a bit of water in the bottom of the roasting pan?

made some of the best SD in a light weight , inexpensive enameled turkey roasting pan with or without the glass pan.  You can put some water in the roasting pan but no more than 1 Tablespoon if my MagnaWare turkey roaster with a  trivet insert that keeps the loaf pan off the bottom of is an indicator.Too much water in the bottom is a problem.;

Happy baking.

Put the turkey roaster top over my loaf pan, and it worked okay. I didn't add water because I treated it like a Dutch oven experiment.

I too was yearning for sandwich loaves, and on February 22 I baked two in glass loaf pans placed in a large rectangular aluminum turkey roaster.  I didn't put water in the roaster, and closed the vents in the roaster and its lid.  It baked for 30 minutes at 475 degrees with the lid on, and about 15 minutes without the lid.  I froze one loaf and have kept the other at room temperature to slice every day. Today's breakfast slices were still very moist.  My spouse prefers store-bought bread.  Go figure!

Thankyou very much for your feedback everyone.  I am going to try it today.  I am also going to by a few backup loaves of commercial bread for the freezer in case it doesn't go over well with my family.  I personally hate commercial bread, but I am the only one in my household who does.

You can see what I did with using my lodge loaf pans as a mini Dutch oven. :)
