Bread being square when it is placed on a (round) plate alongside other food the edges of the bread slice hangs off the plate. This subconsciously makes you think that you are full, therefore, you eat less bread because your plate space appears more occupied.

On a plate people tend to have on average 2 slices of bread (or less) and no more than 3 slices of bread a day (unless you are a loaf lover like us). If bread was round, they would look smaller on your plate. Your mind would tell you that you are not satisfied and you would eat more - which is good for bread companies.

production, maximum oven space occupancy to lower costs. and later toasters.  Pullman style bread (square) was developed for baking on Pullman trains.  It caught on.

What about those of us who have square plates?   I actually prefer my bread on a small board so I can cut it quietly.

Oh, and traditionally, my bread in Austria come round and oval unless we are talking baguettes, square is the exception and is referred to as toasting bread.  Some of the heavy dark rye breads are baked in square pans.

It is not necessary to post the same content to two new topics. Multiple posts like this suggest an ulterior motive, like selling something or just getting attention. I'm not accusing, just saying ...

Happy baking, regardless of loaf shape.

I have square corningware plates with roundish corners. Wonder what type of bread is optimal for that . . . Never knew sliced bread could be so complicated :-)
