Iggy Pop cake

This is a Lemon Frosted Pound Cake. I have added Schweppes Lemon Dry (soft-drink) instead of lemon juice, so this gives a nice flavour between lemon and tonic water.

. . . as a kid growing up in Windsor, Ontario and seeing some of his antics at a local high school in the 1970, I would be almost afraid to eat the cake!  But after following the link to your recipe, I have a Lust For Life to try this one out!

Schwepes is using the Ig and a PITCH MAN???  Who would have thunk it!  And here comes Johnny Indian . . .

Thanks for sharing, Brian

The Geeks Story

Skibum - So you saw The Stooges at your high school in 1970? ENVIOUS is not the word - there are none that come close! Did you happen to take any pics?

So, Iggy is advertising Schweppes in the States? I was amazed when Search And Destroy was used as the musical backdrop to an ad for Nike (I think) coming into the Sydney Olympics.

abelbreadgallery, the Ig would probably have smeared your cake all over the nearest Hell's Angel back in the day! These days, he'd likely politely consume a slice - as long as it's vegan!

Hans, I would NEVER have picked you as a Stooges fan! We're a disparate tribe, that's for sure.

Cheers all!
Ross

Not sure about Schweppes, but The Passenger is occasionally heard in Captain Morgan commercials

. . . not my high school, Forester a school across town and sorry no pictures.  Now Windsor was a great place to escape from, but an interesting place to grow up musically as it is across the river from Detroit = Motown.  Bob Seger did play at my high school, Riverside.  But hey, I'm just an ordinary man . . . with a lust for life!  And a love for bread.

I love their original stuff, Ross, particularly Fun House. Some amazing songwriting also on Raw Power, but the Bowie mix dulls the full potential somewhat for me... (the newer Iggy remix is even worse IMO, though).

Completely agree re Funhouse, Hans. Changed my life when I heard it the first time.

And Raw Power is a beauty (I think Search and Destroy, Gimme Danger and Your Pretty Face Is Going To Hell are absolute classics) - but yeah, the Bowie narco-mix is problematic. The plus is that it is an instance of a mess-up unintentionally adding tremendous and unique atmosphere to the work. Places it in a twilight zone all its own. The minus is that the sound is certainly compromised.I do prefer it to Iggy's remix, though, which I find over the top and tiring to listen to. It's good to hear some of the instrumentation emerge that is hidden in the Bowie murk, though.

I've got a soft spot for the first album, also. Compellingly primitive, despite its weaker moments.

Good to know you are a Stooges fan!

Sorry for hijacking your thread, Abelbreadgallery! Will bow out now.

Cheers
Ross
