Noisy N50.. need an advice!

Hi everyone!

Sorry if I'm using a new account, but I've lost the old one :( (was Darkb)

I have been offered an Hobart N50.. it was ages I was looking for one.. and this is lightly used.. but makes a bad noise..

You can hear it here:

According to you dear friends.. is it spelling troubles or it is fixable with that famous screw adjustment / regreasing?

Thanks to everyone!

Sincerely, Aldo

no matter what else may be wrong, you need to replace the grease as it deteriorates over time, usually every 10 years or so, regardless of use.  It becomes tar like and can damage.  I've done several machines the past few years and some of the older grease is so hard you need a screw driver to chip it out.

It is not hard to do, lots of info on the web on how to do it, plus posts on this site.  There may be other issues such as bearings, but hard to say until you do the grease and have it apart.  Given it is lightly used, hard to imaging it is a bearing or wear and tear issue so go with the grease and see what happens.  good time to replace the cord if needed ...

Thanks for the advice Nickisafoodie, but I was not asking about the general rule.. but about this particular mixed I've posted a youtube link about.. I'm no Hobart expert, and just wanted to know if someone does recognize the noise it makes as something I should be scared of :)

Again, thanks!

In the past year I sought advice at onesharpstore.com.  On their website they have a telephone number.  Call it.
They know lots about Hobarts.  They might look at your video and suggest something useful.

I have no commercial connection with them other than having purchased a bowl and a dough hook from them for a much larger Hobart.

Thanks richkaimd, I'll give them a call immediately!

Meanwhile, if someone with experience with the Hobart N50 could please hear at the one in the youtube video, I'd be very grateful

Thanks to everyone!

The seller isn't wanting to wait some more and so I need to give him an answer soon..

I wrote to the guys of onesharpstore as richkaimd had suggested, but got no reply from them at all.

Please fellows, if someone here is experienced with the maintenance of an Hobart N50, could you please take a look at this video:

and tell me if according to your experience this mixer noise is a sign of something costly to repair or a simple matter of regreasing and calibrating?

Sincerely

Aldo
