For Sale: BOOOOKS ... :) shipping from Germany/Switzerland

Hi

Unfortunately, I don't tolerate bread anylonger... (A bread bakers nightmare! :) ) Thus I'm selling the following books:

  • Reinhart, Peter: The Bread Baker's Apprentice -- good condition, a few notes (mostly for translation)
  • Robertson, Laurel: The Laurel's Kitchen Bread Book. A Guide to Whole-Grain Breadmaking - very good condition
  • Di Muzio, Daniel T: Bread baking. An Artisan's Perspective - basically new
  • Leader, Daniel: Local Breads. Sourdough and Whole-grain Recipes from Europe's best Artisan Bakers - basically new
  • Hamelman, Jeffrey: Bread. A Baker's Book  of Techniques and Recipes -- good condition, enveloped in plastic foil for protection, very few notes

All prices are up for discussion. Shipping fees will be added. Please notice that I'm Switzerland/Germany based - this offer is thus perfect for European bakers. I am willing to ship overseas as well, but it could be costly.

I'm happy to send pictures, if you are interested.

Best wishe - a former freshloaf-enthusiast,

Salome

... you are done baking bread? Just recently I was wondering if you were still reading on this forum, as I had come across a few comments of yours on my old posts.

How are you? I have missed you here!

I would love to buy the Di Muzio book from you, but will be in Switzerland only for 2 short days on the trip I organize for my college students (7 countries in 15 days - totally crazy!). So I hope you'll find lots of buyers close-by.

Schöne Grüße / Amitiés

would you be able to ship the book to my cousin?  She lives in Canton Zug, and we'll be getting together in two months for a visit, so maybe she could bring the book to me.

How much would you like for it, Salome?  Feel free to contact me off-list with a message or at a3rdear at gmail.com.

So sorry you can no longer tolerate bread (I have the same sad relationship with onions...love them but they don't love me).  I can't imagine living in the heart of bread-baking land and having to do without.

Here's to your good health.  Do let me know if we can work something out!

How much would you like for these?

Reinhart, Peter: The Bread Baker's Apprentice
Hamelman, Jeffrey: Bread. A Baker's Book  of Techniques and Recipes

I can have you ship them either to the Netherlands or north Germany, whichever is cheaper.

I would love to have these to start with, as I'm just starting to jump head first into artisan bread baking. The internet is amazing, but having the books is just that much better!

I'm sorry that you cannot tolerate bread anymore, that would be a nightmare for me, too. Hopefully you are at least healthier ... at least one plus side? :)

Gruß,

Are you going gluten free Salome, is that why you can't have bread? There are some great possibilities without wheat if that's the problem. Me and gf gourmand have been having a good discussion about it and have had some nice results. We would love to have some more people on here to chat to, so if that is why you've given up baking, please don't :) we can help you out I'm sure.

Wow, what a response! I was worrying that I would not find anybody who would love my books in the future! :) That – and your warm, empathic responses! – make me truly happy.

Yeah, it truly sucks! I found out that my digestion distress is caused by histamine , and guess which preparations are the richest in histamine? Right, fermentation products! so no, unfortunately not "only" gluten... I think I'm fine with gluten... bye bye my dear hobby! :) However, I’m glad to have found out about it as my stomach is having a way better time since I’m omitting bread and other foods rich in histamine.

@ Chouette / Windischgirl: Oh, two people that are interested in the DiMuzio Book! Chouette was technically first, but I don't know whether it would be too complicated to organize a hand over / shipping adress in Switzerland? Chouette, do you already know which towns you’re passing by and at which hotels you will be staying? If you're interested we could try to have it shipped to your hotel. Or in case you're travelling through basel we could maybe meet, but this will depend on the date. Windischgirl, shipping to Zug would be no problem at all!

@ Anna: Hamelman and Reinhart are yours, if you want them! You should know that Hamelman is my very favourite, I learned so much out of this book! :) Shipping to Germany is cheaper, as I can mail it directly from Germany the next time I'm there (on the 23rd of may, when I visit my bf again)

Re: Prices and Payment

How do you feel about the following prices? (Shipping excluded)

Reinhart: 10$

Hamelman 10$

DiMuzio 15 $

Leader 10 $

Robertson 8 $

@ Anna: your shipping would cost 3,65 Euro (4,80 US $)

@ Chouette/ Windischgirl: Shipping would be 4 Francs (4,20 US $)

I thought about how the payment could be arranged. Probably Paypal would be the cheapest and most convenient way of sending money. (as international transaction fees can be high) Another option would be that your shipping-adress-people send it to my Swiss or German bank account (national transactions are normally free of charge). If you have another good idea, let me know! I don’t really get the American (or: out of Europe) transaction system (never dealt with a cheque so far, as they are not used here.)

Let me know what you think. Are you still on? :)

Best,

Salome

Ah, I forgot to say. The prices are in each case a little less than the current Amazon price. Let me know if this seems to be unreasonable to you.

Sorry!! I messed it up. I meant to write that the prices are in each case a little less than HALF the current Amazon US price.

... Windischgirl should get the Di Muzio book. I need to keep my luggage light! :)

Chouette, Salome is right--you were in line first!   If it works for you to get the book, please feel free to do that. (Although having travelled overseas, I can appreciate not wanting to carry a book across a continent).

Right now I have a message in to my cousin and uncle to see if it works for them to bring the book to me; but at the moment they are getting beauty sleep!  I'll let you know what comes of it, Salome.  I certainly think the price is very fair.

Hey Chouette, if you live in the Northeast US...we might be able to share :-)

the book is rather heavy (little less than two pounds) but it would certainly make good travelling reading for nerds like us. ;)

Would taking anti-histamines help you.? There are histamine-1 and histamine-2 blockers.

Check with you doctor.

Stephen, thank you for your thoughts. I have tried them but am not happy with a long term use. :)

Sorry, didn't see the replies in here. Sent you a message with the options, but I'd certainly like to have those two.
