Hot Cross Buns! 3 gmas

We 3 gmas baked Hot Cross Buns... for Good Friday, but baked early due to one of us traveling out of town on our regular baking day... Nothing spectacular to report on this bake, except the amazing taste of this recipe we got from the Home page on this site!!! Here are the pictures... we are actually pretty close to the same this time... Barb left off the glaze because of hubby's diabetes... other than that, you would think we baked in the same kitchen.  I am loving these sisterly bakes across the country, and thanking God for the gift of Easter morning.

 And there you have it.

Not near so many of these little guys left now... Very tasty!

For Easter we are baking Babka!

See you here.

These better be tasty otherwise you was robbed!  All of them turned out just perfect.  Aren't they great for Good Friday?  So nice to bake cross coiuntry with siblings for Easter or any other time  :-)

I added an egg, some spelt and WW to get the hole grains up some, used an overnight refrigerated poolish for the yeast and  NFDMP in place of the milk too.   They are doing themselves a bulk ferment right now.  Will use a a sort of whiter flour YW something for the crosses which we will add after the egg wash covers the rest of the rolls.  Hopefully the white will visually pop off the top  that wasy.   Will make some as 4 leaf clovers since they are the same as croses and have lines to follow for the whitish crosses on top.

Well done GMA's

Thank you for your kind comments! We enjoyed baking Floyd's recipe. Surprised at how much this week's baking looks alike. Looking forward to seeing those clover rolls -what a clever idea. I used an egg wash instead of the sugary glaze and then piped crosses on them this morning. Husband has fond memories of Hot Cross Buns and Hot Chocolate  brought to Catholic school every Good Friday, by one of  the Sisters.

Time to check out Babka recipes now. And Easter Potato Bread. And maybe a Ricotta Pie.....

25% whole grain Spelt and WW Hot Cross Buns made with, dried; apricot, cranberry and raisins, pumpkin pie spices with a refrigerated overnight poolish.  Used a 12.5 % whole grain YW dough for the cross.  Glazed with microwaved lemon juice and powdered sugar.  These taste are a real treat for a Good Friday desert with butter!  Fun to bake woth you again!

Happy Baking GMA's

Those are crazy amazingly great looking hot cross buns... they are so uniform... did you bake them in English Muffin rings? Nice and shiny and DElish looking... we may have to adopt you as a grandson! Great baking DAB.

The mini oven put some blisters on them too with the help of Sylvia's steaming cups.  Made 6 in muffin tins at 70 g each and 4 in ramekins at 150 g each.  The shiny came from the lemon juice and powdered sugar glaze.  They made fantastic French toast this morning.  I wouldn't mind being adopted as a grandson now that you mention it :-)

Glad you like them and Happy Easter
