Baking Bread in Flower Pot - does it stink?
Hi, I've been baking bread at home for a year or so now, in a Creuset, & everything is quite fine & fun.
Lately I bought a flower pot at an hardware store, good size, clay or terracotta I don't know, but it is unglazed, & so as I read on the net, I washed it in water, oiled it & bake & oil & bake again a couple of times, until it looks quite ready to use. It went quite fine. I've baked together one miche in the Creuset & one in the flower pot turned upside down. To the eye, they are twins. But during baking, an awful smell embalmed the apartment! Will it always be like that? Did a bought a cheap clay pot? Or was the oil the problem? I've used canola oil - maybe too much?
And I must say, compared to the Creuset one, the flower pot miche tastes funny. Should I stop eating it? Birds around will be happy I guess.
David, in a smelly fog.
