looking for an unusual cookie recipe

My daughter has cookie parties with several of her friends- they get together and bake cookies!

I said I would come to the next one and show them some bread baking basics, and they were excited to try their hands at breads. I've already have a few simple breads in mind, and the plan is to bake a few cookies while the breads proof.

I'd like to bring something different to the kitchen counter for the cookie part of the day-

because EVERYONE can make chocolate chip, or Peanut butter, or sugar cookies; and my daughter is getting me fat on my two favorites- spice and molasses cookies.

So, if I may, I would like some suggestions for something different.

  TIA,

Mike

Google "Cape Breton Oatcakes" use the recipe from yum.com.  I add a little cinnamon and chopped raisins.  These things far outweigh any sugary cookie you could bring to the table.

Try adding raisins and a bit of ground rosemary to your favorite cookie dough- shortbread. biscotti, or instead of chocolate chips in a chewy chocolate chip cookie dough.

Or is it too unusual?..

from Dorie Greenspan, who got her recipe from Pierre Herme.  There's a NYTimes recipe from Herme that is the original.  I've made these chocolate sables a bunch of times and they're both easy and delicious, but also unusual as they use salt and brown sugar to enhance the chocolate.

If you can weigh ingredients you'll get a better texture than with volume measurements, as the brown sugar weight doesn't have a perfect equivalent in volume.  And they really do taste better with fleur de sel, which gives just the right touch of salinity and a beautiful bit of crunch.

Another unusual cookie is the three-nut finger from Rose's Christmas Cookies, which has the most surprising dissolving texture.  They are also delicious and easy.

Mike, these are my favorites. The cherries have about the same sweetness level as a dried cranberry but with a intense cherry flavor. Good luck with your party.

Wow, thanks for the suggestions!

I think I've just made this more difficult for myself; I'm going to have a tough decision to make!

Oh well, I guess I'll have to try EACH and EVERY one!

Use a few drops of flower essence or flower water

Go light of the shortbreads taste like soap!

Mold the shortbread in a disk, crimp edges like a pie and cut into wedges with a pizza cutter bake as directed ( on parchment)
