Hello from Logan County, Ohio.

I've taken recipes from the site before, but just joined this afternoon. My new (June 8th) wife and I live on 9 acres (Wolf's Rest Farm) in the Glorious Buckeye State. I have been baking for about 12 years, and cooking for 50.  Since I retired from the World's Finest Nuclear Powered Navy in 05 I have been perfecting my craft. I haven't eaten store bought bread in years now and my wife just gets all ga-ga when she sees me break out the mixer. I built a mud oven last year and things just keep getting better and better. I hope to learn a bit more here, and hope I can help a couple folks who are just starting into the world of bread.

Glad you joined and am sure you will find everyone helpful and there is so much knowledge on this site it is amazing.

Thanks KMIAA. I like trying new things with my baking.  My mother-in-law has become my biggest fan lately. This morning I am making her a batch of orange cranberry scones. My wife Debbie is going to visit in a couple hours and I can already her the MIL "What did he make this time?!"

My wife and I honeymooned in Logan, by the lake, in 2009. We live in Fairborn (by Dayton), and Hocking Hills has long been favorite hiking destination for us. Welcome here.

My own MIL loves my soft pretzels. You should make yours a batch.

You got the county mixed up with the town. I'm in Logan COUNTY (Bellefontaine). If you are in the Dayton/Fairborn area then you are perhaps an hour south  by southwest of me. I go to the commisary on base down there about every quarter (retired Navy). Check out Belle Center, Ohio on the wikipedia; I am in the country about 3 miles from there. You're right about the Hocking hills, though. Great place to go woods hiking!!!

I guess I should read a little slower. Yes, I know where you are. And I live about three blocks from the commisary.

If you're that close to the commissary then we are practicly neighbors. Do you have commissary privledges? Do you shop there?

I never bothered with getting an ID from the VA. But now that WPAFB is taking over part of route 444, which I use to travel to work, I might get my ID so I can cut through the base.

I heard something about that. When are they supposed to close 444 to civilian traffic? Anyway, you should get your ID. You'd be amazed at how much money you can save shopping the commissary and the class 6 store.

Is the date on the sign I pass. They are going to reroute all that traffic through the middle of Fairborn. Silly...
