20120313 Farewell. Deluxe German Rye

After years of dedicated service, my assistant has retired.  To celebrate this big event, we'd presented her with one of the most popular entertainments in the Asian community - a karaoke party; a Chinese style hot-pot buffet farewell lunch; and a going-away card.     Though all of these 'standard procedures' were thoughtful, they were lacking the personal touch she deserves.  Therefore, I made her a loaf of rye bread, with not only the best ingredients, but also, above all, with love.

During the last couple of days of her career,  as she's going around to say goodbye to her friends in the various departments she had worked for in the past decades, I took photographs of them. A photo album capturing these precious moments will be on its way to her.  Years from now when she opens this album again, I hope, fond memories of her ex-colleagues (and my bread) will come to her mind vividly.  I will miss her dearly.

It looks stunning Yippee, and what a great farewell present.  I love the look of the rolled oats on the outside.  Very attractive.  Did you make the cake too?  Have you filled her post, yet?  When can I start work?

I barely manage to have some fun with bread making, cake is definitely out of the question, at least for now...

How well do you handle stressful situations and demanding boss? You might want to reconsider your offer ;-)

Best,

Yippee

Excellent looking Rye, Yippee!

The seed mix looks absolutely mouthwatering. I'll have to try that next time. I've never baked a pumpernickel before.

Good to have you post again on TFL! what a great way to bid your colleauge farewell.

I was watching a documentary about Dubai with my kids the other day.  Among other things, it mentioned the Ski Dubai, which seems to be a pretty 'cool' idea.  It must be very popular for the locals, are you into it, too ?

The seed loaf end photo looks like flowers, seed flowers in a bread bouquet!  Lovely!

I would love to present these 'flowers' to you, the mother of rye.  Thank you!

I love this bread. I reminds me of my recipes: for filling (seeds, in this case) than bread.

Beautiful bread.

Sounds like a great party too, although I'm sorry your assistant is leaving.

for your comments.  You are right about the party, it was a blast! Though it's sad to see her go, I'm happy for her as she's turning a new page in her life.

Hi Yippee,

Ohhhh.. I couldn't stop staring at your great looking rye loaf as soon as I clicked your link.  The appearance and crumb look  perfect.   Oh my... It looks really great, Yippee as well as the cake.   As Syd asked you, I wanted to say the same thing.

It sounds like you and your assistant had had a great relationship.   Saying goodbye to the one who you like might make you cry, but you guys will continue to have a great relationship as long as your friend is in your mind.    The other day, I was thinking of one of my friends at the high school ( I haven't contacted with her for almost 8 years.) then she emailed to me on the next day.  It was a big surprise and made me happy, too.   So, don't be sad, Yippee.

I am your friend, too!

P.S  We sold 2 of our chickens 2 month ago because they are so aggresive that they can peck other chickens to death!  We have 3 chikens now. :)  How is your new pet?

Akiko:

It's nice to hear from you and thank you for your kind words.  As you can see, I've used liquid yeast frequently in my formulas, thanks to your informative introduction and demonstration of its uses.  I've fallen in love with it.  I haven't been following the TFL forum very closely, the last baked good from you, as far as I can remember, was YW English muffins.  Have you had any other creative bakes? You're not only my friend, you are also a great inspiration to me.  Thank you!

The new pet died... My kids were sad for a few months.

Hi Yippee,

It is really sad to hear that you pet died....  I can imagine that your children had had a hard time.  I wanted to say something to comfort you, but I can't find any words to you. I would hug you if I were there.

Thank you for your very kind words! I am very touched.... I am so glad that you are happy with your YW!  I really like raisin yeast water and I have some recipes after the English muffin.

This is my bagel and rustic bread 1 and 2.

Keep in touch,

Akiko

With everything indexed and well organized, it's much easier to search for the 'goodies' you've shared.  I love it!  Iguess I will not only think of you, but I'll also 'talk' with you more often, too!

Hello Yippee,
What a kind send-off for your co-worker!
Your seeded rye bread looks just amazing (what an incredible photo of the bread slices, all stacked up,
showcasing that gorgeous seeded crust!).

bread for the retirement of your assistant!  The cake isn't too bad either :-)

Akiko got me started with YW a few months ago and I too just love what it does with breads.  Her help was indispensable.  My breads aren't as beautiful or accomplished as yours , but I too mix YW with SD starters in many of my breads now.  Both seem to work well together to produce nice bread that is different than what either could make on its own.  I love your use of oats seeds and nuts on the crust and in the bread.  It makes it special and attractive.  We will have to add some walnuts to our bake on Friday.  Thanks for posting your recipe too.  Very nice baking!
