BBA Challenge 2011

Hi All,

I've been at baking seriously now for about a year. Up until now, I've mostly stayed within Carol Field's book (The Italian Baker) and only just recently got a copy of Reinhart's Bread Baker's Apprentice. I realize that since the book was printed a few "BBA Challenges" have been run, where bakers come together online to try to work through each of the recipes in the book.

Although I realize Pinch My Salt runs a BBA Challenge ongoing, I've started a section in my blog, which is here: http://www.akuindeed.com dedicated to the BBA Challenge 2011 I'd like to start up. Simply click on the "BBA Challenge 2011" page on the right top once you are there.

If you'd like to join up, I'd be happy to have you aboard! I'll be getting started this weekend with recipe one (the instructions on how to get started are on that page).

Happy Baking!

Chris

Excellent! At this point we have four people total (including me) who are ready to fire up the ovens. I've enabled the photo image ability in the comments section of my own blog, so in addition to posting to your flickr account, please feel free to put up a representative pic in the thread for each to show us all what you've made.

I'm going to try to set up a twitter account and flickr account just for the challenge too, just in case people want to use those as well.

I've been working almost exclusively with Field up until now. I have not done the Panettone, though I notice that BBA has a recipe for one. I looked at your Panettone in your flickr -- very impressive! I shied away from it this Christmas simply because I didn't have the right baking tools to do it properly. Instead, I made a casatiello for the holidays.

Do you want me to list your flickr address on the BBA page of my blog so people can access it once we get started?

Have fun guys!!  I did the BBA Challenge in 2009/2010 and I became addicted to bread baking and gained a few pounds!!  Don't say you weren't warned.  I also blogged about each bread and learned a ton about blogging and  food photography as well.  it was a great experience.

I'm in. My honey got me a replacement baking stone (cracked the first one with thermal shock) and a pizza peel for Christmas. Looking forward to taking them for a spin!

I've made only one recipe from BBA since getting it last fall (blasphemy, I know!) -- the Anadama bread. Loved it. Looking forward to it this weekend!

Urchina -

Awesome!

As of this moment, we have seven people signed on, hopefully we'll get more as time goes on.

I've added you to the BBA page at my blog (www.akuindeed.com).Looking forward to the first challenge this weekend!

Salt & Serenity -

Thanks. I can only imagine that the challenge is not just to make the bread, but to still fit in your original clothes later on.

I'm going to add your blog to my food blog links at my site. Nice stuff you have there!

I'm working on going through the book also, and started my blog on TFL to post my results.  Not sure I would be able to keep up with a separate site, but will post on here to chat with you all.  I can hardly wait to make the "alien" bread, as my family calls it after seeing the pics in the book.

I was very impressed with the Anadama bread -- especially with the soft and springy crumb! Nice taste too, not overwhelming at all. Nice loaves from all the other participants, too!

Looking forward to week 2 - Greek Celebration Bread!
