non-diastatic malt powder

Does anyone know if KAF's non-diastatic malt powder is much different than the malt powder (for malted milk) that can be bought in the grocery store, or is it essentially the same?  I want pancakes with that awesome malt flavor.

Thanks!

is very different from pure powdered malt.  it includes dry malt, wheat and dry milk.  some brands also include sugar.  check the label before you buy.

Thanks, everyone, for your suggestions about non-diastatic malt powder.  I didn't realize from KA's website, until I read a posted comment, that they sold two kinds -- the malted milk powder (like Carnation Malted Milk Powder you can buy at the grocery store) and also their 'non-diastatic' malt powder.

I have used the Carnation product in pancakes and could hardly detect its presence even while using lots of it, so I'm going to order KA's non-diastatic powder and hope for better things.

I'll let you know how it goes.

Suggest buying some Carnation malted milk powder from your grocery store, and using it in your recipe to see if that is the flavor you are looking for. The KA malted milk powder is similar, though I've read it is a little more flavorful than Carnation. The Carnation is still very good in my opinion.

To me, the pure malt extracts and powders have a different, more subtle flavor. Granted, one is likely to use much more malted milk powder, than pure malts in a recipe.

I asked at my local health food store and they ordered it in for me. It was about $6-7 for 400 grams for pure organic non diastatic malt powder.

.....and was wondering if this is the same as non-diastatic malt powder?  Haven't had a chance to speak to the staff about it yet.

Chances are it's diastatic malt flour.
