Stone-Buhr Flour

On the shelf at the local Grocery Store, I had 5 brands to choose from. Stone-Buhr Shepherd's Grain All Purpose Unbleached is the one I purchased because it was the middle price.  Has anyone else used this  brand flour?  It has been sold at stores in my area as long as I can remember (several decades:>)).

I've used Stone-Buhr quite a few times and always had good luck with it.

I believe it's the strongest whole wheat which is available in the supermarket in the West.

After using the Stone Buhr unbleached bread flour over the past two weeks, I'm quite pleased with the great flavor and performance of this flour.  I'd like to buy more, preferably 25# or 50#, but don't know where it is sold in that quantity.  I looked at "Cash N Carry" and a restaurant supply store and WinCo yesterday, and Top Food the day before but without success.  I'm in the Puget Sound area of Washington State, does anyone know where to find a big quantity of this brand?

I have used it quite a bit and like it better than any other I can by in Portland. Unable to find it in larger than 10 lbs in pdx. I have switched to Pendleton's Morbread unbleached. It's inexpensive and I can't complain. I bought a all purpose unbleached flour that Costco is now selling. Comes in 2 10 lb bags. It is Eagle Mills, natural something or other. 1/2 white and 1/2 whole wheat. It's nice, flavor not bad, but it's odd. I often add whole wheat and other grains to my white unbleached but this flour is different. It is finely ground. Everything comes out so heavy. Extra kneading, s & fs, water, a pan to hold the shape, but I still haven't figured out what I am doing wrong or different.

Stone-Buhr: a good thing.

I, too buy the Costco Eagle Mills AP and blend it with my Stone Buhr BF and a bit of spelt for my custom blend breadmaking flour.  I saw the Morbread at Cash N Carry and wondered about how it compared to Stone Buhr.  I am going to make a special request of my local grocery store for larger bags of the SBBF so we'll see what comes of it.

I too have made special requests but no luck. Only cash and carry bothered to get back with me. The other stores just ignored my request. Please let me know if you are successful.

Hi all - not sure if anyone cares after 8 years, but you may want to see my comment on this other thread:

After 12 years everything is new.don’t know if anyone around Portland is still looking for good flour. Costco is selling a lower protein unbleached.  I’m now using an bleached AP from Wheat Montana from Walmart. Very high protein 5 Gms  per 1/4   Cup. Works just like or better than a strong bread flour. Also using Power flour from The Chefs Store which is the old Cash & Carry. That power flour was Pendleton mills and it was purchased by another company I think it’s Grain Crafters. Walmart also sells Wheat Montana premium whole wheat called Bronze Chief. So nice smells fabulous makes me want to tat it raw. That will never happen in my lifetime but the heavenly smell. Wow. The white flour is also called premium. I found a Wheat Montana at Winco but they had it in a spot that could only hold 3 bags.

I also like the Wheat Montana flours. I can still get the Bronze Chief but they haven't had the AP at my local Walmart lately. The 5 lb bags I was getting were unbleached and 12.25% protein. Here's a link to a spec sheet for the AP.
