Making baking tiles

Has anyone made baking stones from clay?  I have a convection oven and am thinking of making tiles from stoneware clay.  There would be 4 tiles that would fit my oven rack, leaving 1" of space all around for air flow.  I am thinking of adding some minor designs into the tile so the bottom crust of my breads would pick up the design elements.

Any thoughts?

I made my own baking stones to line my oven, from terra cotta clay, and they are working very well.  Per a suggestion from this site, I use an iron skillet with small rocks under the tile and add water to generate steam.  I can bake two large round loaves or 3 batards of about 14" in length.

I might try flower pot saucers, though, for some smaller loaves.  Good idea; )

Baking bread is about the most fun I have ever had, but that may say more about my limited life than it does about fun.......?
