I have a recipe called "crisco cookies" handed down forever. We make this same shape with thickened pinapple and then mini nut rolls, with slashes on top. The dough is made with yeast and rolled in a sugar flour mixture. Look just like yours and are really yummy!

My sister is wrote a cookbook with old family recipes and this is a keeper. Makes a lot of cookies that freeze well.


CRISCO COOKIES (CHIASTECZKA Z ORZEHAMI)     From:  Helen Zielinski Data, (Stanley),  aka “Babci”, New Castle, PA;


Forever Cookbook author Sandra Ostrowski


1 Pound Crisco (Use Part Oleo)
6 Egg Yolks
¼ - ½ C Sugar
½ -1 tsp. Salt
6 C Flour


1 C Milk


1 Large Cake Yeast -3 pkgs dry
1 tsp. Vanilla


Warm milk; add yeast and rest of ingredients as in bread.  Chill.  Roll into a large rectangle.  Cut the rectangle into 3 inch strips then each strip into squares.  Dust dough with flour /sugar mixture to keep from sticking while rolling.  Fill each square with filling.  Roll in to little “cigars”.   Make 3 slits on each side of “cigar”.  Place seam side down on greased sheet.  Bake: 375° x  10 Minutes until lightly browned.


Crisco Cookie Filling
1 Pound Ground Nuts
2 C Sugar
½ C Butter
3 Egg Whites (Beaten frothy )
Vanilla


Melt butter; add sugar and nuts stirring until warm or nuke  Add beaten whites and vanilla.
Alternative Fillings:  Apricot or thickened pineapple fruit may be use. For fruit cookies, instead of rolling the square into cigar shaped, lap opposing corners into center and secure with toothpick.  Can garnish  with a tiny bit of drained maraschino cherry on the exposed corners.  Remove picks after baking while cookies are still warm.  Once cooled, toothpicks will not come out easily.

this definitely sounds like a keeper and I have printed it to try soon !


With 6 cups of flour, it must make quite a lot, would be perfect for a family gathering.

Hope you enjoy them as much as we do and yes you get many cookies. By the way the dough should not be too thick - a heavy 1/8 or light 1/4 thick because they do rise in the oven. Happy baking!
