Hello from London, United Kingdom
Hi - I live in the outer suburbs of London and work at Canary Wharf. I have been bread baking for about 6 months or so. Previously I had a bread machine but that had been sitting in the cupboard for quite a while since I moved house in 2004. Then last year I got myself a funky orange second hand Kenwood Chef from Ebay which I think is probably about 35 years old for making cakes and got back into making my own bread. I think I have bought shop bread maybe three times since I started. I now want to branch out from making just normal bread for mine and my partner's work sandwiches and the odd batch of buns and try something more exciting. I got Andrew Whitley's Bread Matters book for Christmas which has taken me some of the way there in providing inspiration, but have been looking for more hints and tips which is how I stumbled across this site. I have now invested in a copy of the Bread Baker's Apprentice book, and with the help of that and this site, produced a decent focaccia in the week, which everyone at work loved. I'm now going to try the Pain Ancien from the BBA book over the weekend. I've added some flour which I got in france (I'm lucky in that I am within reach of a day trip there so have a fairly regular supply but to date haven't manage to do anything extraordinary with it) and the dough is in my fridge now. Wish me luck!
