Bread Slicer

I was looking into a used Oliver bread slicer and was wondering why there were so many different variations of cut thicknesses offered? I thought the 3/8 (10mm) would make a good all around slice for me.

Any ideas as to why there are so many thicknesses to choose from?

I too was looking at a used slicer.  Given I only make 5 loaves at a time, I recently bought a Chef's Choice slicer from HSN for $99 delivered, less 15% as a first time buyer, shipping included.  It slices bread great, and thickness is adjustible.  And can be used for meats, slicing salami very thin, etc.  I didn't have room for a full floor stand or counter setup nor did I want to spend what seemed like $500-900 for a used machine so was looking for a different approach besides hand slicing.

I came accross this option just recently on this site, so do a search and you may find out more on this.  While the Chef's Choice is well made, if you are professional you will want the commercial slicer

Good luck!

The slicer looks intersting. What are the measurements. Length and width. I have so little counter spce or storage in a motor home

Thanks

It would fit in a space that is 11" wide, 11" tall and 16" deep...

PS, I occasionally use a diamond oval type knife steel to sharpen the smooth blade that comes packed in a seperate box (I do not use the serrated blade that comes loaded on the machine).  it is possible to open the setting up to a wide slice and to gently sharpen each side of the blade while it spins.  Then fully retract for storage.  Given the blades are stainless rather than commercial grade high carbon steel, you will need to sharpen occasionally with heavy use.  Very happy and well made for this price point...

Cheers
