Does anyone know of a substitute ingredient to use instead of beer for making prezels?
Try any beer you have on hand. Preferably a non dark, but whatever you have. If you don't have beer, water will have to do. Of course it may not have quite the same taste, but it will work.
I agree. Any Pilsner of Lager should work just fine.
made with yeast, lightly colored malt and flavored with hops...equals...? BEER!
I have a dozen recipes for pretzels and none of them involve any amber fermented beverages...except while EATING them!
Would you care to share your recipe?
Yesyes! i would really like to see your recipe if you are using ale in your pretzels. i have been using Alton Browns modified bagel recipe.
Here's the link to the recipe I saw being made yesterday on Martha Stewart:
I don't have any beer in my pantry and am trying to find a substitute. Thanks.
Hmmm, seems the beer is for flavoring in the boil, interesting. In that case i would resist the temptation to use Schludwiller Light, or any such American flavorless Lager, and try a nice hoppy IPA or Pale Ale. i would certainly sacrifice half a bottle of Redhook ESB for the project!
