Oh, man! My mom used to make these. When my brothers and I were in our teens, it was a rare event to find any bismarks/ponczkis still around the day after they were made. Gotta see if I can dig the recipe out of the old card file!
I grew up hearing these called bismarks, instead of ponczkis, but it doesn't matter what you call them--they are wonderful! Picture a puffy, pillowy, yeast-raised doughnut (no hole), fragrant with nutmeg, filled with home-made cherry jam and glistening with a thin glaze. I just had lunch and now I'm hungry all over again just thinking about how good these are!
