Coffee and date Bread Loaf

A couple of years ago our local baker baked every Saturday a Coffee and Date loaf of bread? They (sadly) no longer make this and I have tried to copy it without success. I cannot get the coffee flavour to shine through at all. The dough had a lovely dark malt color to it with chopped dried dates. It was so sweet to taste. We treated it as a raisin loaf and was great for a snack in the afternoon.

I have tried searching TFL for a possible recipe that may help me make this loaf. Again without success .

Is there any one out there in the TFL community that may be able to help with a possible recipe?

Heres Hoping..............Pete

I have used a recipe off of all recipes a few times and have always been pleased with the results so you may want to give it a try:

I found this recipe online.  Don't really know if this is what you are looking for, but it sounds good!  I might have to try this one myself!

DATE - NUT - COFFEE BREAD
1 c. dates, cut in half
1 tsp. soda
1 c. boiling strong coffee
1 c. raisins, optional
1 heaping tbsp. butter
1 c. brown sugar
1 egg
1 1/2 c. flour
1/4 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla
1/4 c. walnuts, chopped Use leftover coffee or mix cup of instant coffee.

Place dates and raisins (better with raisins) in large mixing bowl. Sprinkle soda over fruit and pour boiling coffee on top. Mix and cool slightly; add remaining ingredients and mix well.

Line bottom of greased 9 x 5 x 3 loaf pan with waxed paper. Pour in dough. Bake 1 hour (or slightly longer) at 350-375 degrees. Turn out of pan, peel off waxed paper, and cool. Wrap in foil and store in refrigerator or freeze.

(3 small pans may be used for this amount; can leave breads in small pans and wrap in foil.)

Makes nice gifts at Christmas time.

I used to work in a baker and we used to use a coffee syrup like Bickford as coffee syrup

Oh that sounds like the Bakers Delight coffee and date loaf. It’s so hard to find!
